I need someone to tell me how do-able this is.

I've got to trigger tonite at 11:30.  It's a work nite for DH.  I'd prefer to do it myself and let DH get some good sleep since we're going out tomorrow nite for our anniversary.

So - lay it on me.

How tough is it?

Do you just look in the mirror to aim or do you try to twist around?

I've done one in my thigh in an emergency but never in my back side/hip.

It's just one. I can do this, right?

(again - this is for a retrieval for a study not for a TTC cycle) 

 

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

    You can do it! I did them myself all the time. I used the mirror and just jammed it in. Good luck.

    You can TOTALLY do it.  I did all my shots (sub-cutaneous and IM) for all my IUI and IVF cycles.  Personally, I didn't use a mirror.  I found it easier to twist around and give myself the shot.  I never had my husband give my shots for me....I'm not sure why, but it didn't cross my mind.  I did them all myself - easy peasy.  GL!

    You can totally do it!  I did them all myself because my DH is a wimp.  Put all of your weight on the leg opposite the side you'll be using.  I didn't use a mirror, just kind of leaned on the bathroom counter and twisted around.  I found it was much harder to give it on my dominant side (so, if you are right handed, for me it was much easier to inject into my left hip).  Good luck!

    This!  Use your dominant hand to inject and lean all your weight on the opposite leg - if you stand with weight on both legs the muscle is sort of tensed and it hurts more. 

    You can do this!

    I did IM injections all by myself for 6 weeks.  It sucked but honestly it didn't hurt that bad bc I could control how fast/slow I was injecting it.  I just twisted and injected.  I also iced the area before I injected!  GL sweetie YOU CAN DO IT!!  I PROMISE!

    Yes, you can do it! I propped my butt up on the bathroom counter. I put all my weight on the leg not getting the shot. I made sure to have everything I needed set out and close by including a tissue in case there was some blood. I looked in the mirror and went for it. The longer I sat there thinking about it the harder it was to do. Good luck!

    All of this. PLUS - there are a couple videos on youtube. I thought they were worth watching, just to psych myself up, get an action plan in my head, etc. Just search for PIO injection - that will probably generate the most videos and is the same process. Good luck!

    No prob. It was tricky with castor oil bc so thick, but otherwise fine.
