Anyone have a biter?

Leah is - big time. I constantly have bite marks on my shoulders and arms where she gets me. Today she bit Evan right on the back - poor kid has eight perfect teethmarks in his back. Is there anything I can do? She isn't doing it when she is mad - it just comes out of nowhere so I have no clue how to prevent it...other than not letting her near us. We do give her a strict "NO. We don't bite" etc but she just yells "NO" back to us, sometimes getting a little upset that she got yelled at - but then she just goes about her business.

This girl is a pistol. I can see her temper growing and she gets super mad when we take things away from her...Ugh - here come the TTwos!

DS just started to bite. We say ow and fake cry... it seems to help him understand he is hurting us. He pats us and gives hugs/kisses when we "cry".  He at first thought it was hilarious. Hopefully it will end soon-it hurts!

  • I don't have a biter, but I have a head slammer!  Bri butts her head against whomever she can when she gets angry, forhead to forhead, and it HURTS!  Actually, she stopped doing it last week, she slammed (on purpose) her head on the floor so hard that I almost took her to the emergency room.  She hasn't slammed her head into anything since.  She hits instead when she gets mad.  I would say that she is getting a reaction when she does it, and that is what she wants.  Can you try holding her in such a way that she can't bite anyone?  And give her something else to bite?  Like this.  When B was head butting, we held her with one hand on the front of her chest and the other behind so she couldn't head butt us.
  • Yeah - we try to hold her away from our body as much as we can. I feel bad but those little chompers HURT. I do think she likes the reaction - which I TRY not to give..but sometimes it's just so out of nowhere that I can't help it. She's also getting her eye teeth in right now (although the biting has been going on for a while)...maybe it'll just stop on it's own. Oy!

My brother was a head-butter too - he walked around with a black and blue mark on his forehead for at least a year.

  • We might have a biter now...as of today :o(  My dh is home with the boys, as Justin is a little sick.  He told me today that Dylan bit Justin this morning.  I plan to start doing time-outs with Dylan.  Hopefully this was a one time thing but I know it can be common.  I hate to draw attention to the negative stuff sometimes because then Dylan tends to do it even more.  However, I don't want to ignore it either.

  • T does this both when she's angry and then also just out of nowhere when she's being goofy. I try and talk to her about it using words I know she knows the meanings of. I tell her how it gives people an ouwie (because she understands what that means) and makes people cry because it hurts them. It has not completely stopped but has gotten better! T's other problem is throwing things....just for fun and also out of frustration!
