Carly has a hemangioma just below her eye. It's been there since birth and has gotten bigger and now seems to be shrinking. In the past couple of days, I have noticed a darker scab on part of it so I took her to the pedi this am. He said he didn't think it was infected and that part of it was dying. Supposedly, these things shrink and disappear by the time the kid is 10.
He did give me the name of 2 dermatologists. One is a pedi derm and the other has all the latest lasers, treatment options, etc. My friend knows a doc that is prescribing beta blockers to shrink them with success (he's a pedi ent, though and in Idaho).
I just feel really torn about what to do...should I take her to both derms and see what they say? I am just so afraid to do some kind of treatment that leaves her face scarred. But I'm afraid if we don't do anything and hope it shrinks, it won't and we will be told we are past the point of shrinking it.
I don't want to screw up my sweet girl's face!
Re: A wwyd...advice please
Yup - see both docs and let them know you are just trying to understand options. You don't have to make any decisions right now until you know what each has to say. Heck, throw in a third too
With luck, they'll all recommend a similar course of action and you can feel comfortable in making the best decision. GL!
