To liven things up...

And because I'm bored waiting for DS to sleep, a question; did you poop during labor?

I did. And I puked. Yeah!

And I'm not being super gross as this was just asked on 12-24Stick out tongue

To tell you the truth, I have no idea!! But apparently I grew several heads and had an exorcist moment with L, and called the nurses some pretty nasty stuff. I don't remember doing that, I was too busy sucking nitrous oxide. Nasty stuff. This time I freaked the heck out of the only other mom delivering when S was born, I screamed so loud she told the nurse she thought I was being ripped apart. It sure felt like it, she was huge!

I don't know if this is gross (to me it was cool), S was born with the membranes still nearly intact around her (save a little hole where my water broke). Aparently that's really lucky, and it was really cool to see.

Not that I know of, surprisingly.  I sure screamed, though, and I am not a screamer.

Nope! But since LO was breech, I had a c-section, so... Big Smile

Before the c-section became inevitable, pooping on the table was the thing I was most afraid of regarding labor. Forget contractions, forget tearing, I didn't want to poop on the table. I broke it down like this for MH: I told him me pooping on the table could come into play during L&D & if it happened he's to tell me it didn't happen. I told him if I ask him if I pooped, he was to tell me no whether or not I did. He said "well, you probably will. I heard everybody poops. And you might smell it." I told him that if I ask him "what's that smell," at any point he's to tell me he farted.

Now, I was quite proud of myself for fearlessly pooping 2 days after my c-section Stick out tongue  Whenever anybody asked how I was doing, I told them "great, I pooped!"

Do you mean during delivery? Not that I know of but I think I was all crapped out from going like 5 times during the labor part. But at least that was in a toilet. It was bad. Probably as bad as the cleaning out you get when you have a colonoscopy & have to drink that nasty stuff.

    So just me thenEmbarrassed

Strangely enough I didn't really scream until the very end - and I was pushing for 2.5 hours. The nurse said I was "very controlled," something no one has ever said about me. Ever.

    Doh! Yes, during delivery.

Fiazo - that totally reminded me. The answer for L is, absolutely I didn't. I was 41 weeks 3 days with L, and fed up. I went with my dr's suggestion of castor oil, and drank the whole damn bottle. I was cleaned clear out. And he says to me, I didn't think you could actually manage to drink that much. Uh, gee thanks. And for the girls, DH won't tell me and I don't want to know.

LOL stever! I'm sure the rest of us did. And as for being very controlled, I totally picture a very proper lady in labour with a cup of tea and a raised pinky. So dignified! Wink DH said I resembled Animal from the Muppet Show.

Yah, I should add I didn't mostly because I'd had the runs all that morning.  There was just nothing left.  :)

Hehe... I could have used a cup of tea during all that ;)

And the only reason the nurse told me was because they were worried about my progress and apparently taking a dump means that things are, er, um, progressing. So  she said it like, "hooray for poop!"

  • Options
lol, yeah I guess that's true! That's so funny that the nurse said that! Yeah, I seem to progress too fast to notice. Except L - took 48 hours to come out %^^$%^!! And def. no poop. The post partum nurse commented, trying to make me take colace, and even my mom (who, sadly, also worked on that same pp unit) had to convince her that there was nothing to come out! Eep. Thanks mom.

I ended up with an emergency c/s, so I didn't get the opportunity to push or poop! However, I did puke after laboring for about 8 hours.

No, I don't think I did, though I certainly felt like I had to.  In fact, I felt like I was pooping, and was surprised to hear DS cry when he came out... I'd had no idea I'd delivered him (it was a really fast labor, pushed for about 10-12 minutes)!

I think I was pretty quiet (could hear another lady screaming down the hall though), kind of whimpered actually, as I was so taken by surprise when the real pain hit (I'd labored with only mild menstrual-like cramps under pitocin for several hours before they broke my water and then it was as if I'd been struck by lightning).  Got off kind of easy, I think.

I think so?!  Nobody said anything to me, but I felt like I did.  I also felt like something was "off" during my severe pitocin-induced contractions and wondered if poop was coming out then.  Didn't want to know, so I didn't ask.  Oh!  But now I remember a long toot...I didn't even feel it...but is seemed to last 5 minutes!  But the doctor didn't flinch.  Ugh.  Labor ain't pretty.

     TMI warning...

Yes! I had a long labor and 3 hours of pushing before my c-section. I felt it and I smelled it and I freaked out!  I was really embarrassed.  I actually brought an air freshener spray from Bath and Body Works and I made my DH go to my bag to get it so I could spray it right then and there.  To ease my embarrassment, my OB actually said, "MMM, that smells good!" after I sprayed it!

Oh, and I know they always say in the books that "if it happens they will whisk it away before you even know it."  Not true in my case.  I unfortunately saw it as well as smelled it.  They had more important things to worry about than my poop.

I so love that you brought air freshener with you!! Too cute!

No pooping that I am aware of; however, I did pee all over my nurse and DH when they tried to get me up use the bathroom.  I also had a really good epidural, so I felt absolutely nothing while I was pushing...so who knows what came out.

Gimmietimmies....so funny that you mentioned the membranes thing...M was exactly the same way.  In fact, he was crowning when my OB broke the water, so he was totally in the sack until the very end.

No but I had a csection. I did start hyperventilating when I couldn't move my legs or cough because of the spinal

Didn't poop, but I puked a lot.   After 12 hours of laboring and getting nowhere, I ended up with an emergency c-section.   Puked with the pitocin.  Puked with the anti-puke meds.  Puked DURING the c-section.  Puked after everything was over.

    Hubby--"It's a boy!"

Me-"Great!  What will we name him?   Oh wait.. I need to puke."

    Yeah, I'm a puker apparently.

    I have no clue.

I *almost* puked, though.  But my epidural eased the pain and I didn't.

I'll have to ask DH if I pooped. Maybe.  I'm not sure I want to know.

I did 21 y. ago during my first labor but not this time. I didn't scream this time either b/c I had an excellent epi - just the right amount of drug. It was so great - too bad we are too old to have more kids...

No pooping because of emergency C after 12 hours of labor with only 6cm of dialation.  But I did moan alot because the epi was all screwed up.  Too much and I could not feel my arms from the elbows down and then too litte and I could feel the pain and could not move my legs.

No and I was (pleasantly) surprised since I had a huge spaghetti dinner the night before AND they told me to push exactly as if I were having a bowel movement.

No poop...  I had a c-section, but I did puke from the induction meds, which took 2 days, and still had to have a c-section.  So, no food for 2 days, and throwing up- lovely!
