Re: Poll: Gwendolyn vs Gwyneth

  • I think Gwendolyn Claire sounds better, but Gwendolyn Anderson is too long IMO.

  • I prefer Gwendolyn but had to add that I also love Guinevere!  Gwyneth isn't bad by any means, just not my preference.

  • SS: Gweneth (I don't like the Ys... they look so fussy. Gweneth looks more grown up.)

  • Good luck with your decision. Both of our girls were supposed to be "Gwen" but could never decide to go with Gwen, Gweneth, Gwyneth, or Guinevere. So, they got other names. Next girl will be a form of Gwen regardless!

Our last name also is 3 syllables and ends in "son" which instantly took Gwendolyn out as an option. I love Gwyneth but must husband has issues getting over the Paltrow reference. Our new neighbor Is Gwenline which I had never heard before.

I voted for Gwyneth. And Gwen is fabulous! and Gwyneth Claire is a wonderful classic name!

Gwyneth is also my favorite but DH prefers Gwendolyn.  I completely agree that Gwendolyn is just to much with a 3 syllable last name that ends in "son" but I can't seem to convince my hubby of that. I would also go for just Gwen and use a little bit longer middle name (Elizabeth) but DH isn't on board for that either.  I hope we can come to an agreement that we both agree with because this little girl is already Gwen in my heart.

Thanks for all your input ladies!  I really appreciate the feedback.

  • Guinevere :)

But if I was to choose between the 2 I would say Gwyneth. Both are beautiful, great names!

  • For some reason, Gwyneth has always seemed pretentious and wanna-be-British to me. Maybe something having to do with Ms. Paltrow. Anyway, I personally like Gwendolyn better.

All I can think is Paltrow with Gwyneth. I go with Gwendolyn (or Guinivere.)

  • I voted for Gwyneth, but if you spell Gwendolen <- this way, then please consider my vote changed to Gwendolen.

These are the only three spellings of full names for Gwen that I support:

    Gwendolen

    Gwyneth

    Guinevere

And yes, you can use the Gwen spelling for the nickname, no matter which of these three above names you use.
