So I tried to cheat and look at my high school friend's registery. Her husband is a pediatric dentist and he, of all people, would know what is good and bad, right? FAIL...she's not registered for any pacifiers!
Is it best to register for different kinds? I chose an Advent BPA free one and then another type like they give you at the hospital so far. But I don't want to have 5 different kinds if baby narrows it down to 1 kind for us...so...just suck it up and get a variety?
Re: pacifiers...
I wouldn't register for pacifiers. You (the collective you) have no idea if your baby will take to one and they will all still be there once you figure it out, kwim?
We used the hospital one one and off for the first month-ish (tried not to use it often due to bf'ing). That gave us plenty of time to see if they even wanted a paci.
that's sorta what I was thinking...I can even grab a few here and there just to try. I dunno. I guess I don't want to get home with a screaming kiddo and not have one that they will take...
and inquiring (or my) minds want to know MC...where did Tops come from? The name...ya know?
We weren't planning on using a pacifier period but DH finally just popped the one we got from the hospital in DS's mouth. It was a playtex one. DS loved it. He would spit everything else out. So some babies can be picky from the get go.
I say try the hospital one first and if baby likes it then why bother looking for another pacifier? If she doesn't like the hospital pacifier then I'd try some others.
ETA: The ones we used until he stopped using them cold turkey were the Playtex Ortho Pro pacifiers. Not the Binky ones.

I don't see anything wrong with registering for a few pacifiers. If baby doesn't use them, they won't be the only thing that turned out to not be needed! And when you need one, you'll be super happy to have them there already.
When Olivia was really small, she used the Nuk pacifers (because they were her favorite to suck on, and still are sometimes).
Then for a month or so we switched to Mam (she didn't like sucking them as much, but they didn't have the handle that made it easy for her to pull out and get mad about).
Now we're (for the first time) using the one the hospital gave us. They are the same shape all the way around, which makes it easier for her to put in herself. Plus they are all silicone, no hard plastic, and she likes to teeth on it. One day she saw it in the crib (where it'd been unused for over 5 months) and just picked it up and has used it ever since. The hospital pacis, though, are hard for them to keep in their mouth when they are little.
Anyways .... so if I had it to do over again, I'd register for one of each. Some people like to see a registery with small things (for gift baskets of little things, to add to a medium priced gift, etc).
