Weight Loss almost 11 months PP (Definite Vent)

I've hit a complete standstill and cannot lose weight no matter what I try (with the exception of not eating anything). At first I started out with a Clean Atkins Diet... way too few carbs for me. So I progressed into just solid Tosca Reno Clean Eating. I LOVE that lifestyle. I feel so good, with the exception of not sleeping well.

I went to the Dr to get a full panel done. Results were normal. I'll find out next Wednesday exactly what that all of that entails. She was concerned with my poor sleeping, family history of cancer & diabetes, and that I've never been tested for PCOS. I've always wondered whether PCOS might be possible, but after having DD... it's kind of hard for me to think it is. She set me up for a pre-sleep apnea test and I'll find out those results in a few days.

I'm kind of hoping there's something logical to explain everything. This is so difficult that I'm doing everything right but cannot lose any weight. It's ridiculous and frustrating.

Thanks for reading if you made it this far!!

  • Have an endocrinologist read your panel!  A lot of things that they ran on the panel can be low but not considered deficient even though you are showing/experiencing symptoms.

I actually gained weight on Tosha Reno's "Eat Clean"...

Also, you didn't mention what you do for physical activity.  If you aren't doing anything consistently, then you may want to add it in.  Best thing is get a gym membership at a location that has a babysitting room.  That way you get two hours dedicated to just you!

  • I go to the gym at least 5x a week doing both cardio (zumba, elliptical, running, body combat, etc) and strength training.

The Endo is a good idea... I've been struggling with Asthma my entire life but have been off medications for well over 5 years. The doctor is going to send me to either a nutritionist or dietician... I don't remember which. Thanks for the suggestion though!

  • I can say this after meeting with a nutritionist/dietician, it is time in my life I cannot get back!  What a WASTE of time/money!  It's funny, they looked at my meat/dairy intake and told me to back off, yet I'm D and B12 deficient (has to do with genetics and not being able to absorb them) and those are the primary sources but also, they were suggesting protein amounts for a person who is NOT physically active.

The asthma thing is interesting because if you haven't done a lung study recently it's possible that it may be contributing to things as well.  The endocrinologist is the way to go though - and I know it sounds odd, but go to a place that specializes in obesity/weight/barriatric work.  The reason is because they're KNOWN for checking all of the other stuff in your life/panels that is going on and getting to the actual CAUSE instead of just focusing on a symptom.  Also, the endo clinic I go to has a body composition scanner which is fantastic to do once a year or so.  It actually gives you the breakdown of fat to muscle in the body.  You may find that your BMI is completely bogus (I'm on average 4-5pts. difference between a BMI chart and what my body actually is)...

When it comes to your strength training, are you actually pushing yourself to muscle fatigue/failure by rep 3-10 or are you using light weights and just doing 10-15 supersets?  In other words, is your strength training just an extension of cardio that you do on non-class days or how many days a week are you lifting.  Also, are you resting long enough between sets and your division between upper/lower/cleanup parts?  If you're doing "full body" each day, you aren't getting the maximum benefit nor seeing the results you should.  If anything, there should be a significant benefit in how your clothes are fitting rather than a number on the scale being your guage for health..

  • Are you eating enough? Maybe your body is holding onto fat because it's not getting enough fuel?

  • I don't think I'm doing the amount of strength training I should. My gym has a circuit line set up to do 3-4x per week. You do one set reaching muscle exhaustion. What I think I'm going to do it go through it 2 or 3x next time I go.

As far as caloric intake, I'm consuming between 1600-1800. My BMR is supposed to be somewhere between 2150 and 2300. I've bumped my caloric intake down to 1200 before and my body went completely into starvation mode. What I figured is I can lose 1lb per week by a decreased caloric intake and lose the other 1-2 lbs by proper exercise.

The Endo is definitely what I'll be checking into and asking for a referral. Luckily I'm by 2 huge hospitals with a ton of medical parks. Thank goodness for the college/retiree town. Hah!

  • Are you weighing out your portions? I know it sounds anal, but it's a good idea for a lot of people... Small things add up and measuring cups (etc) are not nearly as accurate. Also make sure you are tracking everything, including treats and 'bites' of things here and there (sometimes moms end up eating their LOs leftovers and not accounting for that, etc).

  • Yeah, I actually bought a food scale a few months ago for this purpose. It's small and can go with me everywhere. I don't eat DD's food. If she doesn't eat something, either the dog gets it or it can go in the fridge for later or thrown out.

I'm not a big snacker and usually not a sweets type person. Although lately I've been wanting savory sweet snacks like nobody's business. I try to keep fruit and veggies chopped up in portions and dark dark chocolate (like 85%) in the freezer. One or two squares does the trick and if I eat it, it's only once per day.

  • Are you still breastfeeding by any chance? I'm down to one feed a day with my dd and I'm finally starting to lose weight. My doctor told me that breastfeeding causes weight loss is true for some women but not all. My body apparently thinks I need to store all of my fat in order to produce milk! It's frustrating but it will come off eventually. I'm assuming you were checked for thyroid issues but I would definately have someone look at those numbers again. Even a minor change in my thyroid numbers causes me to feel off. Good Luck!

I wish I was... my body wouldn't produce more than an ounce each time no matter what I tried (medication, natural, massage, pumping, and even power pumping). So DD's been FF since basically birth (at least supplemented at the time).
