January 2012 Moms

This may be a stupid fear, stupid question but

What were the statistics of a m/c after seeing the heartbeat? I am still so nervouse about this pregnancy and I wish I wasn't/ M/S is the worst it has ever been in any of my pregnancies, but every time I get cramps (which I still get) I get scared. It is hard to enjoy this pregnancy and I so want to. I want to be excited.

The doctors have seen the heartbeat twice now, once at 7 weeks and once at 8 weeks. But I know for me, I had a m/c after seeing the heartbeat at 6 weeks (which was on the slow side) and then picked up and saw it again at 7 weeks and it was perfect. Then I lost the baby the very next day.

I also am so sad for the ladies who have seen the heartbeat and then their baby stopped growing around 9 to 10 weeks. It is scary.

Anyone else still scared/nervous? I just want to be 13 weeks already lol.

Officially, your chances of m/c are 5% from 6-12 weeks and move closer to 2-3% once you hear the hb.

Like you, I saw my baby's hb and then lost my LO a week later. For those of use who have lost the percentage game, the fear of it happening again is always there no matter what the percentages are.  I don't think I will feel better until the day I hold my LO in my arms.

  • when i saw my dr and i was 8w and we saw a hb he said chance of m/c was less than 5%.

And yes, I am still scared/nervous.   I really never get over it.  Even when I was in labor I was terrified DD would be still-born.  That kind of worrying is not helpful!

  • this is not a stupid fear at all! we saw and heard the heartbeat last time and lost the baby a couple of weeks later. we heard the heartbeat twice this time and hope to hear it again tomorrow, when i'll be 9w1d. still even then, i know i'll be nervous throughout the pregnancy. once you experience that kind of loss, it's hard to not feel nervous.

  • This is not a stupid fear and you will never stop worrying.  If it is not about losing the baby it will be about something else.  As the Mom of a 10 month old I can say that you will worry about your child all the time, but it is not necessarily a bad thing just normal.  I think it is called love & maternal instincts and it kicks in the moment you find out you are pregnant.

Take care and just don't forget to enjoy your pregnancy and not let your fears drive everything.

  • Not a stupid fear!  I actually researched this yesterday after spotting & I saw anywhere from less than 3% to 10%.  HTH!

  • last time when my dr. saw the heartbeat and measurements were good at 9 weeks he said that the chance of m/c at that point were less than 1%.
  • I'm pretty much terrified every day.  Every cramp, every wipe, gets special attentions.

I'll feel some relief in the 2nd tri, but like Debbie was, I'll be nervous until that perfect January day.

  • I am right there with you.  My last pregnancy ended at 8 weeks.  We saw the hb at 6 weeks and then the baby stopped developing and we discovered it at 8 weeks.

I was really nervous at my 8 week appointment and cried when I saw and heard the heartbeats. I'm still nervous because I want everything to be great with our babies and I know that reality is really scary.

I just keep praying and try to be positive.

  • I am so scared too - i had spotting last night - i went in for an ultrasound today and the baby was okay - but with my last pregnancy the same thing happened at the same time and then two weeks later at 11 weeks - the baby did not have a heartbeat.  I was told both time that I only have a 1% chance of miscarriage now.  Praying this time will be different than last time.

This is exactly how I am. Scared to the very end. Most of it is my history of miscarriages but also my clotting disorder does have increased risk of still birth. I am a very anxious person anyway. I am so glad I have you ladies to chat with and get through this easier.
