allergy to 1st solid or diaper rash?

Hey ladies!

DS has been trying sweet potatoes mixed with formula for the past 4 days - yesterday night I noticed some little red bumps along his bootie crack - not sure if this could be the solids or just diaper rash? I'm putting cloth-diaper-friendly ointment on him, but was wondering if I should stop the sweet potatoes too? Thanks!

p.s. I'll probably call the pedi too, but curious what y'all have experienced...

    We haven't started solids yet, however, my first guess would be diaper rash.  To be safe, I would stop the sweet potatoes & I'd probably let the pedi know, too.  Better safe than sorry in this instance.  Keep us posted!

    It sounds like diaper rash.  A lot of baby's have a flair up right when they start solids as the compounds of their poop change and irritate their little bottoms.

    Tell the pedi about the sweet potato, but it sounds like diaper rash. LO had that at 2 months, and she had to prescribe an ointment for us. Took it out in prob less than 24 hours.

    H had an allergic reaction to her first solid- avocado last week when she had her first BM. It was like raised bumps and red areas on her bottom. The ped said to use A&D at each diaper change as a barrier. He said it's caused by the acidity in the food and her having sensitive skin. It cleared up after about 3 days and hasn't returned despite her still eating the solids. HTH.
