My update if you are interested....looooong

So, I haven't really mentioned this but I had a consult scheduled with Dr. K at CNY today. I wanted to talk about DE, donor embryos and possibly using my OE 1 more time.

It went a little better than I thought.....we are really leaning toward DE but I'm not sure we would go there since their guarantee program is way out of reach $45k in 6 cycles. If I know one thing, I know I cannot go through this mentally 6 more times!

So, he really gave us the choice about my OE...only about a 10% shot as opposed to 50% with DE. He wasn't leaning either way. He seemed to have quite a few ideas that none of the other REs ever suggested. Which makes the argument for never giving up and keep having consults at different places if you have it in you to keep going. Fresh eyes are always good.

So, here's the plan:

1. Get a lap/hysteroscopy. I do have stomach issues and endo symptoms but it has never been investigated....probably because of the Crohn's.

2. Once we get the lap results, we'll move forward based on the findings (lupron depot or intralipids...I'm not sure which would treat it-he talked about a lot of things. We won't discuss until we get the results)

3. He is putting DH on clomid and HCG shots to maximize his sperm.

4. He will probably do EPP with antagonist protocol which has been the best for egg count in the past.

So...this is my Hail Mary. We decided to move straight to DE if this doesn't work.... maybe with CNY, maybe not. We are looking at cycling with our eggs and sperm in Aug or Sept. depending on lap and treatment.

He is super positive and a little new agey but he does have such great energy. He suggested all kinds of other stuff like mayan massage and going to the support group. He also supports acupuncture and the chinese herbs I am taking. He is big on attitude and energy and I think I need a cheerleader if I am going to do this again.

I also loved my nurse...she knows my friend IRL who is one of our SAIFers and I felt an instant connection with her.

I hate to get my hopes up but between this and my new acupuncturist (who studied with the man who basically cured my friend's cancer) I have this weird feeling that I am where I am supposed to be. I think Dr. K even won my hubby over and he was pretty much done with everything.

Thanks for all the well wishes and support. I felt like you girls were all with me at the appt. (In spirit...how awkward if you had been in the exam room.....Stick out tongue)

  • This sounds very positive!  A fresh set of eyes is always nice.  I like that he's into complimentary medicine - who knows if it can be the magic bullet, but it def doesn't hurt - if for no other reason than taking care of yourself makes you feel better.  Great that he's positive.

I'm surprised they never did a lap on you at Cornell btw - that seems to be their M.O. after a couple IVFs.

Sounds like a great plan!  Best of luck with everything. :-)

After 1 IUI, 3 IVF's with CGH/CCS testing, 10 early miscarriages, and lots of tears and frustration, we are moving on to Domestic Infant Adoption!  We are so excited to see what the future holds.

  • what a great update :-) It does sound like you are w/ the people you are supposed to be with. Having a laparoscopy was definitely invaluable for me -- I always suspected endo, and they did find that, as well as tons of adhesions from a possible infection (acute appendicitis). My quality of life was better after the procedure.

T+Ps for a great cycle come this fall!!?
