Hi Girls. Next Thurs my son is getting tubes put in his ears, due to residual fluid in his ears and many recurrent ear infections (he's had about 7 since he was born, and we've been on 5-6 rounds of antibiotics). We LOVE our ENT doctor and totally trust her, but I am just so nervous about the fact that the has to have general anesthesia. I know the procedure is common and relatively low risk, but just wanted to hear any stories on if your kids or kids that you know have had tubes?
All this being said, I know that in the end this is the right choice for him, I hate giving tons of antibiotics and this way the fluid will drain and he'll be a happier baby
Thanks!
Re: Moms of 1+ - has your child had tubes in ears?
I totally understand on being nervous, I was a wreck when my son had it done last year.
However, it has done him wonders! Before he got the tubes we were at the doctor probably every 6 weeks...once he got the tubes we didn't go back for ANY sick visits for a year. It totally changed him and his health.
Best of luck!
My DD has not had tubes but I think out of my circle of friends she is the ONLY one who hasn't! She's only had 1 ear infection and didn't get that one until she was 18months. We got really really lucky.
But I've not known a single person who's had complications or any problems from getting the tubes in. Each of the moms has been scared but everything has turned out perfectly and they got great results! Good luck, I'm sure it's unnerving!
We were all set to get DS tubes after several boughts of middle ear infections, but when we took him to the ENT that I like, he was clear. I have kept an eye on him and he is still clear. But yes, I would say get the tubes, I am in the profession, and I see kids everyday with tubes, and they work wonders. I also see kids who have had the serous fluid in the ears for years w/o tubes and see the side effects from that.
Good Luck!
