If you have a toddler that goes to bed around 7-8 pm, I need your advice! (*I say that time specifically, bc it pertains to OUR toddler's bedtime, I know plenty of toddlers have differing bedtimes - I know one as early as 6 and one as late as 11pm!)
We tried staggering DS and DD's bedtimes last night, just to see.. and DD had a rough night and we're wondering if it had anything to do with it. She HAS been having some awesome nights for a week or so, up until last night, when her normal bathtime was pushed back 45 min. I think she might have been just overstimulated too late in the evening...
We HAD been doing them sort of simultaneously - we both bathe her, then when she's done, I nurse her and put her down while DH is giving our son his bath in the other end of the house. Then I usually rush over to do his bedtime book. It's a little harried, esp if DD is not going down easily.. I feel guilty for missing our son's book-time.
OY! So, if you have another child to deal with at the same time as your yawning-like-crazy baby, what do you do????
Re: Bedtimes for baby AND toddler - come in!
I bathe DS (he's almost 4) around 7:30pm (or he gets a shower with DH) then I often BF DD WHILE reading to DS. This allows us all to spend time together, and keeps DD quiet so DS can have his books. Then after that I bathe DD (so that's proably around 8:30 or 9pm, which really soothes her, yet keeps her awake for her next feeding. Then I feed her and she goes to sleep around 10:30pm. But she doesn't sleep well enough for us to put her to sleep at the same time as DS just yet.
My DDs go to bed at 8pm.
DS has sort of set his own bedtime somewhere between 9-10pm right now.
If I'm available I help with DDs bedtime. If I'm occupied with DS, then my husband puts the girls to bed, including bath on bath nights.
Divide and conquer is the way to go in my house!
DD1 gets a bath between 7-7:30, meanwhile DH will feed DD2 or we juts put her in her bouncy chair in the bathroom with DD1 and I if DH is not home. Then I do pj's at the same time for both girls and read a book to both of them while we lay in my bed. Then DD1 is off to her bed and I put DD2 down for the night too.
It is kinda crazy when DH is not home to help, but it works for us. Like pp said, it is nice that DD1 does not fight us to go to sleep, she knows it is bed time and will walk into her room and wait for us to tuck her in. She also loves that her little sister gets to read her bed time book with her.
DD2, just kinda has to go with the flow. I did not want to change DD1's routine because she has been such a good sleeper. If DD2 gets tired, she will just fall asleep in her bouncer.
