problem with baby name

So my husband and I have picked out a name for our daughter, and the more I mull it over, the stranger it sounds and the more im wondering if I even actually like it...or is it just because its hard to comprehend because she isnt here...im wondering if its not that I dont like this name, its any name I would pick that I would feel that way about...and I know I can always change the name, im just not crazy about it really, but honestly im not crazy about any names....why is this so hard to choose??

  • We weren't sure about ours, either, so we tried it out for a week. When we talked about her and the things we were doing, we used the name we were thinking about using. At the end of the week we decided against it - it was too harsh. We moved on to our second choice name and have loved it/stuck with it.

Maybe saying it outloud like she's really here will help a bit.

  • be prepared to say that name 1000 times a day, LOL.....you want to make sure you like it!  like pp said--try it out and say it.  you will know when you have a name you love--it just clicks and you can't imagine naming LO anything else.

  • I think the weirdest part was when other people started calling my baby by his name - and he's not even here yet.  My big test was how it would sound when you're yelling the entire (first, middle, last) name, because you know that will happen.  If it sounds good, then it works.

Yes, try yelling "First-Middle-Last name, get your butt in here!  You are sooooo grounded!!" outside your back door.  If it sounds good to you, then it should work. Wink

My husband and I can't pick a name either, and we realized a couple weeks ago it was because we hadn't met the baby yet.  So we'll take our list into the hospital and I know once the baby comes it will click.

We felt the same way with our son.  We went into the hospital leaning a little more towards one name, but as soon as we saw him we knew he was a different name from our list.

It doesn't help that nothing sounds right, or clicks, but I know for us that once the baby's here we'll know which name is perfect.

  • We are currently struggling with this ourselves.  At the moment we have it narrowed down to 2 names.  I think we may just end up picking the name once she's here and see what she looks like more.  Perhaps that's what you should do.  She may come into the world looking just like the name you've picked...or maybe not.

I'm just frustrated because I'm getting pressured to pick a name before hand for people that want to make things with her name.  I'm standing my ground though.  She's our baby and we'll name her when we're ready!  GL!!

  • With my first I chose a name but then changed only about about a month before my son was born. Glad I did, I fell in love with the second name and just knew. This time I am also having trouble with names because I haven't found any names that I love as much as my son. I try yelling the name, or using scolding tones to see if I like it lol.
  • We were so torn over names. It was such a difficult task! DH really liked the name Norah though and I finally caved. I looked at her US pic and imgined calling her that (I know you can't tell alot about their appearance, but still). It just seemed to fit. Try writing it down a few times and like PP have said, try saying her name a few times out loud to each other and see how it sounds. Good luck! I know how difficult it is!

We've narrowed it down to 2 names.  DH shared the names with friends, and now they are "voting" by calling LO by the name that they like.  At first, I didn't like that they were doing that, but it's actually helped me make my decision.  Hearing the names out loud, especially from other people, helps me invision him being called that when he gets here.
