I showed a friend some photos from our NT scan yesterday, and her response made me furious. She said, "Wow, I think it's a boy and your husband is going to be SO PROUD," and then made a diagram pointing to a part of the baby's anatomy that is CLEARLY not genitalia, but I suppose looks like it could be a gigantic penis.
It made me really mad, first of all, because I thought that was such a crass and disgusting way to talk about my sweet little innocent baby, and I really don't enjoy penis humor of any brand. But also because my husband wouldn't be more proud of a son if it has a humongous penis (and neither would I, for that matter) -- I thought it was such a gross, offensive thing to say. Ugh, it still makes me so mad to think about it.
Also, after that she said, "Oh, I was just kidding...but I did look at the 'angle of the dangle' and I think it's a boy." Which made me even more livid, because what if I don't WANT to know the sex of the baby? I didn't ask her, and I certainly didn't want her opinion. Plus, I hate the phrase "angle of the dangle." I seriously regret sharing with her at all.
I realize that I'm pregnant and hormonal and overly emotional, but I'm just...irate!
Re: Irrationally angry
aww
sorry she hurt your feelings. Unfortunately it is all too common to get people's unsolicited comments about things we wish they'd shut their mouths about!!! I'm not very big on penis humor either...dirty jokes don't tend to be my thing. (so don't open my "picture fail" post from earlier today!
).
I wish there was something we could say to get ppl to stop the blah blah that comes out!
Nobody can make these comments about our most recent u/s photos because they were too blurry. It was disappointing at the time, but maybe there are positive aspects of low resolution... People still try to "predict" the gender, but we know there's no way they're making accurate predictions this way.
Note: my MIL spends hours staring at the blurry picture trying to guess the gender, even though it's too early to tell even from high res pics. People seem to get really obsessed with this.
