Went to my baby's 4 month well-child visit today and his head measured 17 3/8 inches which put him in the 80th percentile. He was at the 48th % at his 2 month visit. The doctor said that he would monitor him closely as rapid growth could be a sign of hydrocephalus (water in the brain). But he didn't seem too concerned...he even measured my head to see if big heads ran in the family. I looked up hydrocephalus and it sounds scary. Should I be worried??
Re: Rapid Head Growth
My DD's head went from the 50th %ile at 2mos to 75th at 4mos and the dr didn't mention anything like that to me, nor did she seem concerned about it. My head is probably larger than average, so maybe that has something to do with it.
Is there some sort of way they can test for hydrocephalus to put your fears at ease?
I believe they can do a CT or MRI, but first he would have to see a neurologist. I guess we will see what the pediatrician finds during my DD's 6 month check-up. He isn't exhibiting any of the other signs that I read about, so I'm not going to worry myself over nothing. Thanks for sharing Abby ...you actually put my fears at ease.
