Tonight Alice ate pancakes from a box with syrup. I added 3 chocolate chips. After she ate and I cleaned her up I noticed around her mouth were two distinct red welts. Looked like someone had slapped her raised up but not hives. No other marks on her body. Took her to the doctor immediatly and he said he though it was a contact reaction and we could resume the food in afew days if I want. Now I feel nervous between the strawberries and poultry. What would you do avoid these for now or attribute it to a one time thing.
Re: pancakes
first, what are her current allergies?
What pancake box did you use? Did you use real eggs, cows milk, and real choc chips for the added ingredients?
When my son gets a rash around his mouth it's usually immediately after he ate an allergen.. if it's on his body than that means it could have been breakfast or lunch or something way earlier. But if it's a ring on his face (welts, or blisters, or rash) i know it was what he just ate.. so i would look at the ingredients of the pancakes and syrup.
Did you use a spray to coat the pan? If your LO is allergic to soy there is absolutely NO spray out there that is safe (at least i haven't found one) -we use a store brought pump and i add olive oil to it.
never heard of hungry jack. I use the Bisquick (WHITE BOX) mix and it's soy/milk free. and add egg replacement.
you said "her OTHER allergies are..." so what are her main allergies? I'm sorry if i missed you writing them down somewhere.
it's possible she may be reacting to something new, unfortunately. Or her reaction came late. I guess kids are all different. Did she have a blood test or scratch/prick test?
