I have always avoided because I have no idea how/if she will react. She had an epi-pen for soy last year, so I knew she was severe and it just wasn't worth the risk to me. She is less severe now, but I am still hesitant to give it to her.

M can't have soybean oil, so I have avoided lecithin just to be safe (I am BFing). At this point, we think (hope!) it's an intolerance he will grow out of. I accidentally ate 2 bites of something with soybean oil last week, and M had mucus in his stools for about 36 hours afterward.

My son can't have soy lethican or flour, but has no reaction to protien or oil.
Nursed without dairy, egg, soy, peanut, treenut, fish, shellfish or beef for over a year.
Currently tandem nursing dairy, egg, and shellfish free.
DS born via emergency c/s after 20 hrs of labor. DD successful VBAC!
We avoid all soy (90% of US spy is GMO anyway). The good news is that more and more companies are removing it from their products as more consumers avoid it. There are health benefits to soy but its also bad for the thyroid. That means more options for us!

Re: Soy lecithin
some people can tolerate it. My son can't. Same goes with soybean oil.. some can tolerate it even though they are allergic to soy... my son can't
is your child allergic and your BFing or are you allergic? do you know the RAST levels?
soy allergy sucks! it does seem like everything has soy.. but there are a ton of products that don't have soy.

I don't know if DS is allergic/intolerant yet. I am BF, and am attempting an elimination diet to try to figure out what's bothering him.
In this situation, I personally would avoid ALL soy until you know if it is an allergen. If it is, then you can slowly try the oil and lecithin.
