Do I need to get a note from DD's doctor

before we fly next week? We are going to be flying/traveling for 6 hours so I will need to bring DD's almond milk in a little cooler on the plane. Last time I flew with DD she was on formula and the the TA people didn't even bat an eye at the amount of water I was carrying on board. How picky will they be about the almond milk, and should i get a note from DD's doctor to eliminate any potential problems? Any insight would be appreciated!

  • I would.  It certainly can't hurt to have it and it might be very helpful if TSA gives you any problems about it.

  • I would too. The regulation clearly says "juice" and also medical need. There are some pretty jerk face (ok, just rigid) people out there.

  • this was our experience couple of months ago when we flew.

I shipped out a lot, a full box of milk, oatmeal, cereal, pasta.. pretty much everything. But i also wanted to bring 2 days worth of rice milk on board. I spoke to my allergist and she said most of the time they could care less about a letter but it's worth taking it with you.  the allergist already had a letter that was typed up so all she did was signed it.

I called the airport and airline and both said to bring the letter with us.  We did but no one cared to look at it. It was a nice piece of mind though. All we said is that we have cases of milk with us due to my son's allergies and they were fine with it -as long as it was sealed. The one carton that wasn't sealed was tested.  The only tip i was given directly from the people that were checking my bags is to put all the milk in one bag so they don't have to go through all the bags -we split everything up in to 3 bags that we were carrying thinking we were just not going to get stopped. ha.

Try to bring milk that is not opened, otherwise they have to put this stick over your milk. My DH didn't feel comfortable giving it to my son afterwords -he's weird like that.
