Did you switch to 2% milk when LO turned 2?

Or did you wait to get the Dr.'s okay before switching? C doesn't have a Dr.'s appt. until next month so I will ask then too, just wondering what everyone else did. Thanks!

Re: Did you switch to 2% milk when LO turned 2?

  • Doctor did not mention anything about it, but DS is on the lower end of the weight scale so we are keeping him on whole milk for a while.

  • I think it depends on the weight of your child. We switched to 2% when he turned 2 and even switched down to 1% when he turned 3.

  • The doctor said we could move her to 2% when she turned two.  I kept her on whole milk until recently because DD is on the smaller size.

  • Our pedi said to keep DS on whole milk for another year.  I'd call or wait until your appointment before switching.

I didn't switch until ped told me to at 2 yr well check.

  • Pedi said (well before DS 2 year appt) that we could switch to 2% when he turned 2 so we did. His weight was fine, he was growing fine so I just did it.

  • we got the ok at the girls 2 year appt. to switch to 2%...we have kind of been alternating between whole and 2%...I have been programmed to buy whole mild for a year so I guess I still just automatically grab it and go...but when I remember we get the 2%...
  • Our pedi told us to keep giving her the whole milk, so we have been till recently. We just switched her to almond milk a couple of weeks ago.

I think I asked when I was in for their 18 month appointment and the ped said that I could switch to the lowest % they'd tolerate at 2.  We all drink skim now.  :-)

  • DD couldn't handle the higher fat percentage in whole milk so we have been on 2% for awhile.

  • I just switched DD recently. I made the decision on my own, doc said I could do whatever made me feel comfortable.

  • DS has always been in the normal range for weight, though the lower end of normal...we didnt switch ahead of time, but she said they dont need to drink thier calories anymore and said we can do 1% or even skim...though when he went for his 9 month appt, she told us if we started him on whole milk at 11.5 months she wouldnt tell anyone Wink
