Registry for 1st birthday

Really?  I don't know this just rubs me wrong.  Maybe it is the chic that is throwing it.  Maybe it's because she had it printed on the invite (rather than just communicating it if you asked).  Maybe it is because she cited 'free shipping from this site' when you have to spend $49 to get the free shipping.  Maybe it's because she put "DDname had picked out a few items that she would like" on the invite.  Maybe it's because the $450 Bob stroller was the first thing I saw on the registry.  Maybe it's b/c there is puffs on the registry.  Just rubs me wrong.  Sorry if I offended anyone.  I am sure if it was someone else I might be okay with it.

Re: Registry for 1st birthday

  • I think all registries are wrong - a reg for a one yr old? ridiculous....

it's one thing if you ask for gift ideas that are a reasonable price.....putting a $500 stroller on there is crazy

Very tacky. Stroller? Puffs? Two ends of the spectrum - both very odd. And on the invite? Yeah, I don't like that.

That said, we did have a wish list on Amazon in case anyone asked for ideas, but it was all $10-30 items and no one knew about it unless they wanted to know!

THIS is what I am thinking is appropriate...so that if someone asks you can direct them there.  Thank you for validating that I do think there is a right way to do this and it wasn't just me be persnickedy.

  • I keep an amazon wish list for me and a different one of stuff I want for the boys.  I would NEVER put it on an invite.  Now if a family member asked me I would say I have it but really it is for me to track items I like/want.  Putting it on the invite is tacky.

  • A registry for a first birthday is wrong, that being said my mom asked my sister and me to make Amazon wish lists for Christmas the the kids birthday's- we all live spread out so it makes things so much easier to have family go online and just point, click and have it shipped to us. I LOVE it when shopping for my neice and newphew. Its just for family though and I don't print it on any invitations.

  • Really? Her 1 yr old picked stuff out?  I'm pretty sure my son's registry would have consisted of empty toilet paper tubes at age one.

Don't get me wrong, I put together a wish list with various price points if family members ask for ideas.  But usually I tell people we really don't need anything, just come to the party and spend time with us and bring a b-day card.  The less stuff in my house, the better!

I totally agree...I just don't get it. I have a friend who lives far away from family and they asked her to create a wish list so she did on Amazon but overall I think it is super tacky!

lol!!!  you crack me up :)

I agree with you, printed on the invite is a little crazy town...and the thigns she had listed on there?  weird...

I have an amazon wish list that I keep for my own purposes, a place to store things that I think he would like as I come across them.  I think my mom knows about it, but that's it :)

  • My friend did this and it pissed me off too. She had ridiculous thongs on there-totaling +400 a pop. She said it was for the grandparents to purchase. Hell to the NO!

    Puffs?  Really?

A friend did a wishlist for his daughter's birthday and it didn't bother me.  I thought it was helpful in fact.  But the items were about $20.  And I like the parents. lol

  • We had a wish list for Katie's 1st birthday. I, personally, think it's an awesome idea. I don't know about most people, but I have a helluva time thinking of what to get for a child I only see a few times a year. I don't know what toys he/she already has and this saves a lot of hassle for everyone.

Of course the most expensive thing on ours was maybe $30 and I only told people about it if they asked.

  • I agree that wish lists are a fine idea! I started a MyRegistry.com registry for my baby shower and have maintained wish lists there ever since, for both myself and my kids. That way, whatever the occasion, the list is always there for family members and friends to take a look at. Plus, it helps me keep track of what we have and what we want/need. That being said, I certainly wouldn't print this information on an invitation, I would just provide it to anyone who asks! After all, holidays and birthdays are supposed to be about seeing your loved ones and spending time with them, rather than forcing people to bring you gifts!
