We have finally decided to go to Gulf Shores Alabama in August for our first family vacation. My husband has left all of the planning to me. Here are my questions/concerns:
1. Which condo to choose?
Emerald Greens: 2 bedroom, 1 Bath. 5 minute drive to the beach. Splash Park, Free 9 hole course with balls, continental breakfast in clubhouse, sand play area, fitness center, restaurant, and several pools/hot tubs, near shopping and restaurants
Beach Plantation by Kiva Gulf Course: Studio Apartment with great beach view, 7 pools/hot tubs in complex, older property, in Ft. Morgan - quiet family area, 20 minutes to shopping and restaurants
2. Any recommendations on restaurants or activities to do with a 2 year old. We will probably eat most breakfasts and lunches at the condo, but would like to go out some in the evenings.
Re: Gulf Shores Alabama
3. Also, should we drive straight through or stay at a half way point? My initial thought is to play it by ear and only stop if necessary.
Thanks for any help! I am so excited to go on our first vacation in three years:)
My family used to go every year and we always stayed at the Plantation. Its nice even though it is older. We've always driven it in one day, but I haven't been there since we had Griffin, so I am not sure how he'd do in the car for 12 hours.
Have fun! I love Gulf Shores!

This is our yearly destination for a family vacation too. Last year we stayed at a condo in Lei Lani Condos. It is through this rental company: https://www.gulfshoresrentals.com/
They have the "Stay and Play" program where you get a bunch of "extras" for staying with them such as free admission to waterville usa, free golf, free video rentals (we used this when it rained), and free dolphin cruise. I like that you get something extra for staying through them. Also, if you go here: https://www.gulfshores.com/travel-tools/vacation-guide/ you can order a free vacation guide.
We havent taken Lily yet, so I'm not sure about kid friendly stuff. When we go we plan on leaving after lunch (nap time) so she sleeps, and drive until later in the night and stop so we can all sleep. Then get up in the morning and drive the rest of the way. Plan on lots of stops and get a DVD player for the car if you dont already have one. GL! and let me know how it goes.
Thanks for the tips. I ended up finding a one-bedroom on the beach in Ft. Morgan. It was a little more, but still within budget.
Cooperme - When are you going to Gulf Shores? We are going in early August, since that is when the prices seemed to drop drastically.
Well, as of now we are not able to go because our house is for sale. If for some reason we were able to sell/move into a new home before the end of August we may try to sneak down.
Enjoy and let me know how it goes traveling with a LO. We will for sure be going next year.
