Hope it's okay with you for starting a new thread, but I just wanted to say that I did exactly what you are planning to do and enrolled my DD in preschool while I am on maternity leave. It was the BEST decision we made.
She was in a nanny share before I went on leave and we actually kept her in that 3 days a week for the first 3'ish months (so as to provide her some consistency) and then she started school this week. She was very patient and understanding of the baby's needs, but on days that she was home with me we would try and leave the house at around 10 am and one thing or another would happen and we would be lucky to get out by 2:00 pm. I felt like I was constantly asking her to hold on or be patient or just play by herself for 5 more minutes. Honestly, she watched a lot of tv! She absolutely, without question, needs the stimulation of other kids and has SO much more fun. On the days she is with me and the baby she is happy to be there and doesn't get as bored as I know she would if she was with us full time. She goes from 9 to 12:30, 3 days a week and if it wasn't so dang expensive I would probably enroll her for 5 days a week. I am taking a whole year off of work and so it is a definite financial hit, but totally and completely worth it for my sanity as well as hers.
I guess I just wanted to let you know how well it has worked for us and that I think you are doing the right thing! ![]()
Re: ~Lukaface~
Totally fine
Thanks for your honest insight and support! I really think S will be so much happier at preschool in the mornings. She's been in an in-home daycare since she was 4 months old. I'm a little bit nervous about transitioning her to preschool at the same time that her little sister will be coming but I figure she will have about four weeks to get used to it before the little one's arrival.
