I am FB friends with a girl from high school who is married to a 56 year old man. She is 26. I'm just curious what BOTB's opinions are on that large of an age difference in a marriage?

That is 30 years. She is a lucky girl. He probably knows a lot and will also leave her some good money when he kicks it, so that when she is 56, she can marry a young buck. She's in the cougar training program.
I just read yesterday about one of the cast of Lost (Horace) age 51 married a 16 year old girl. I can't stop thinking he's probably got kids older than her.
I'm all about to each their own, but if DD wanted to marry someone 35 years older....I'd probably have a problem with that.

To me 30 years is a pretty big difference, but who am I to judge. I am sure that some people would side eye the fact that DH and I are 11 years apart (he'll be 40 this year and I turn 29 in less than a week)

My parents are 11 years apart, no judging from me.

You know, I didn't even think of how I'd feel if it were Cam. Thinking of it that way, I'm not so cool with it.
Maybe I need to work on that?

That seems like a really big age difference, but DH and I are 15 years apart, so I really can't say that much. The 15 years doesn't really come into play at all in my marriage.
I feel like if the person you're marrying has (or could reasonably have) kids your age then it's side-eye worthy.
I mean, I ain't saying she a gold digger....
What weirds me out is thinking about how her parents could potentially be the same age as her husband. And what if her husband was older than her parents? My mom is only 50 so her SIL could be older than her. Weird.

DH and I are 10 years apart, and I know that seemed like a big difference to some people when we first got together. We were sort of in similar life places at the time, though, and (other than vastly different musical taste) it hasn't really come into play.
Normally 30 years would seem like a lot to me, but there's a couple in our church who were 25 years apart. He passed away this year, but they were just about the sweetest couple ever. I guess it's a case by case. At 26, I couldn't imagine marrying someone my dad's age, though. *shudder*
It's not for me, but as long as you're over 18 I don't have a problem with it. BFF Was dating a guy who was 50, she was 32. His daughter was 28. They seemed okay with it, and had he not still been married I'm pretty sure they'd have some sort of permanent relationship.
As for kids, I would hope that when the time comes I would have the ability to look at the relationship itself and not just the ages. I almost married a guy when I was 19. He was 34 and divorced from a stripper named Porsche. My parents were surprisingly okay with it because he was actually a really good guy.
Also, LOL At the cougar training program.

I am trying to shut my mouth about seemingly odd relationships between consenting adults. That being said, if someone is still a teenager when she started dating a 30+ year old, even if they are 18/19 sometimes I can't hold it in.

Lol, you can say it!
I thought I was so in love, everything was perfect, birds singing... then I woke up one morning, realized I would probably never finish school, have multiple kids before I was 25, never have a career. It was like a lightening bolt struck me in my sleep. We broke up, I moved home, and while I wish him well, I've never looked back. I asked my parents once why they were so cool about it. They said they didn't think they had a choice, I was VERY head strong, and would have dated him just because they said no. And that he truly seemed like a nice guy, so they weren't worried about my safety.

EWWW Horace is not attractive at all. I wonder what that 16 y.o. was thinking?!?!
I personally can't wrap my head around being physically and romantically attracted to someone who could be my parent. And I'd be lying if I said I didn't judge it - I try not to, but sometimes I just can't help it.
I got distracted by Horace. I should also say that I don't mind age differences as long as it works for the couple. Maturity comes into play though, as stated above, teenagers are not mature enough to be married.
My brother has dated older women. The first was 14 years older. His new fiancee is, like 6 years older. But he's mature for his age and isn't attracted to women his age. At first I side-eyed it, but now it's fine

i heard her dad is only 47, that means her husband is 4 years older than her dad! now that's too big of an age difference to me! DH and i are 3 years apart and i love it! but 35 years is too big of a gap for me!
Re: Age difference in marriages
It's not something I'd be down with, but enh, whatever ruffles your skirt!

Mmmm...cake!
I find it extremely difficult to believe that two people with a 30 year age difference could possibly be in the same place in life.
But hey... whatever floats your boat.

What does the Casey Anthony case have to do with age differences in a marriage.

That is what the pictures of that girl I know look like. I feel like I am watching her and her kid with her dad or grandfather. Again, weird.
As much as I like that part (which is awesome), I'm also thinking, Good for that guy!
