DS won't eat table foods

With the exception of goldfish or puffs, DS won't pick up any food with his hands and if I try to feed him solids he won't do it either.  I've tried pasta, cheese, little pieces of meat, fruit, pretty much anything that can be appropriately cut up and eaten.  He is moving up to a new class at daycare and he needs to be able to eat the food they serve for lunch or at least attempt it.  He will eat stage 3 chunkier jarred food, but nothing he self feeds except the dang goldfish.  Any tips?  Do I just go cold turkey and no longer offer the jarred foods and hope that when he's hungry enough he'll eat?  He is on WCM now solely, hasn't quite mastered it in his sippy yet, so he does get nutrition from that.  I just don't know what else to do.

Re: DS won't eat table foods

  • I had this issue with C too...up to three months ago he was still eating purees. I finally had him evaluated by a feeding specialist (your LO is much younger than C so I dont know that Id rec that yet) bec he was gagging, puking up anything solid and or pocketing a bite in his cheek onward of 2 hours.... frustrating. I too got all the nutrition is through vats of pureed soups etc. The Feeding spec said that it was all a control thing, attention, and the only thing "wrong" was the fact that his chewing and swallowing muscles were weak due to the fact that he ate so little table food. and just like that, he woke up one morning and said mama, I eat like a super hero. and theres been no purees since. What I guess Im trying to say is, I know how difficult/concerning/frustrating it is, but keep doing what your doing. Keep introducing. And it will click. Unless you see any other reasons for concern (reflux/gagging) Id seek out professional help. Good luck!!!
