Babies: 3 - 6 Months

I want to throw my pump out the window

But it costs too much. Ugh, I hate pumping. I've had to add two extra pumps a day to try and keep up with what DS eats at daycare and I still can barely fill them. I have maybe 100 oz in the freezer but am afraid once I start using them then my body will never meet the demand I have. Remind me again why do I put up with being milked 4 times a day on top of breastfeeding. And yes I know I am lucky to produce milk at all but that doesn't make it any easier.

  • It sucks. I'm right there with ya.

Have you tried all the tricks to increase your supply? (drinking more water, fenugreek, etc?)

  • I'm right there with you. I pump 5 times a day and get 9-10 ounces total and my stash is nonexistent. My dog destroyed my breast pump last week and I was so tempted to just buy a can of formula.

I don't know what your philosophy is, but I just tell myself that I'm going to keep going until it's preventing me from having fun with DD. Happy mom=happy baby

  • I've been sipping so much water I should move my office to the bathroom. I might try fengreek but it sounds like you have to take a ton for it to be effective. Maybe I'll buy some this weekend and give it a try, do you know how long it takes to work? Honestly the biggest things keeping me going right now are DS seems to have a lot of tummy issues and I know breastmilk is easiest to digest and the cost of formula. But any other motivation I'd appriciate.

  • I feel your pain.  The only thing that has helped me increase my supply is eating a little more (went from 10 oz. pumped @ work to 12 oz. pumped @ work).  But I'm still 50/50 on whether I'll stop at 6 months or try to make it to 12 months.  It depends on how hard of a week it has been.  Keep your chin up and GL.

Try setting some goals for yourself, like "I will make it to 4 months" and then when you get there, "I'll make it to 5 months".

I don't take fenugreek on a regular basis; just when my supply seems to dip. I take 2 in the am, and 2 at lunch, and generally see a difference at my next pumping session (not huge, but enough to warrant taking it).

I also baked up a giant batch of lactation cookies last week (just google for a recipe with oats, brewer's yeast and flaxseed) that I have a few of every day.

If you can't keep up with your LO, it's not the end of the world to switch to formula, but if he's having tummy issues, you may have to try a few different kinds, so GL.

  • No, wait, wait, wait, give it to me so I can have two and at least then I won't forget mine at home, or forget the parts in the dishwasher, or forget the cooler. etc. etc.  Just when I increase my supply I do something to mess it up... My boobs are officially engorged today.

  • I sound like a commercial but I think milkin cookies helped me get a few extra ounces. Or you can try making your own which I think I might. Any solution involving chocolate chips works for me!
