Tell me about crib "toys"

Talk to me about these. It seems I missed this chapter when reading up on baby gear. I see people mentioning toys, noise makers, sleep sheep, aquarium something-or-another, etc. What are these and when does LO start using them? My girl isn't even close to sleeping in her crib yet.

    Hey!  I have no idea about these crib toys, although I did get an aqurium thing at our shower.  I haven't seen you around much and wanted to say hi!  Hope you and Nora are doing well.

    LO doesn't sleep in her crib yet but we have a couple "crib" toys. She had a giraffe that makes white noise, we use it in our room by her bassinet and in the car on longer trips. We also have a mobile but since she doesn't sleep in the crib, we set it up on the changing table and that has been awesome. She is much happier during diaper changes now that she has something to look at and it is helping her learn to track things and reach for things.

    Xander has that aquarium thing other people have mentioned. Even now we turn him to face it and he will stare at it for about 15 minutes- good distraction.

    We LOVE our sleep sheep! If he's already asleep when we put him down we don't use it too much, but if he's still awake he fusses until we turn it on and he calms down soo quickly!

    I don't put the turtle in the crib, but it is nice because she loves to look at the stars at night. I can also see where I am going at 3am without needing a brighter light!

    We have the Rainforest Soother, which I preferred over the aquarium.  For idle non-sleep time spent in DS' crib (like when I'm folding laundry, etc. in his room), I also have the Kick 'n' Play Piano, which he loves.
