Re: GTKY: Belly Lotion/Cream!

  • What butter/lotion/cream are you using on your belly?

Aveeno Stress Relief lotion or Vitamin E cream - I switch between the two.

    Do you like it?

Yes! The Aveeno stuff smells amazing!

I was using the Plamers Cocoa Butter for Stretch marks and the smell was enough to make me want to vomit I just can't get myself to use it.

    1. Palmers Cocoa Butter

    2. Love it! It does have a strong scent but it doesn't bother me. I used it with my first, so the smell kind of brings me back to the time when I was pregnant with DD...it makes me smile :) I find that it works all day long and isn't greasy at all. I put it on morning and evening.

What butter/lotion/cream are you using on your belly? I'm using the Belli all day lotion and the elasticity belly oil, sometimes vitamin e. Do you like it? Yes! I love it, the belli stuff smells great and my dh likes to put it on my belly and talk to the baby before we go to bed it's so sweet!

  • What butter/lotion/cream are you using on your belly? I use the Suave Cocoa Butter or St. Ives Elastin. If I get itchy during the day/night I have a Body Shop cocoa butter body stick that I rub all over my belly like deodorant.
Do you like it? Yes! I love all of them, especially the body butter stick- loved it when pregnant with DS and my stomach would itch like crazy until I got this. The scent can be a bit much at times, but I deal with it because it works so well.

    1. Bio Oil

    2. Yes, it smells nice and it really moisturizes

  • Palmers Cocoa Butter Oil that's made especially for stretch marks.  It's not too greasy and doesn't have an overpowering smell so I don't mind it at all.  I remember reading somewhere that oil is better than a cream because it absorbs into the skin better....?

I have this as well but haven't used it yet. Good to know it works well! I was just going to save it for the itchy skin stretching in 3rd tri. So far the cream is working well for me.

  • I've been using Bio Oil. It smells nice and makes my skin really soft. I also noticed that a scar on my stomach has faded a bit since I started using it... Hopefully it works for stretch marks!

  • What butter/lotion/cream are you using on your belly?

I have Burt's Bees Belly Balm, and I sometimes use the Palmer's CoCoa Butter for stretch marks.

    Do you like it?

The Burt's Bees is kinda thick, but I do like it, and I LOVE that it has 100% natural ingredients.  I just use the Palmer's here and there, maybe if my tummy was itchy that day?

  • On my first OB visit I was given a packet of information and one piece of paper said DO NOT  USE COCO BUTTER IT CONTAINS CAFFEINE. So I have been using my regular body lotion. I have also read may studies that say no cream can prevent stretch marks so I just use the cream I have always used and like and am not going to spend a fortune on a cream that will only prevent dry skin

    1. Aveeno Daily Moisturizer and Cetaphil body cream. I switch between them.

    2. Absolutely! Like PP said, I love the smell of the Aveeno. The Cetaphil is a bit medicinal smelling. I may end up getting some cocoa butter to combat stretch marks, but we'll see.

    Holy extreme.

    1. Palmer's Cocoa Butter DOES NOT contain caffeine. Just an FYI

    2. If it's safe to drink a cup of coffee a day during pregnancy, do you really think a little slathering of cocoa butter is going to hurt the baby? I realize that ingestion and absorption are two different modes of exposure and will be metabolized differently once in the body, but really? Seems a little over the top and alarmist.

  • just bought "mother's special blend" from whole foods yesterday and like it so far.  i like that it's all natural and organic.
  • I use Vasoline Intensive Care lotion for my whole body.  I've used it my whole life & I love it.

I didn't get any stretch marks with DS but I really believe that it has to do more with heredity than what lotion you use, my mom & sister never got stretch marks.

  • Another vote for Bio Oil here!  I also have Palmers as back-up, but it's not as easy to use if you're getting dressed right away.  The Bio Oil goes on easy and doesn't stain your clothes (at least not that I've noticed).

She just had her first less than a year ago and swears by it.

I got the Mama Mio Tummy Rub at one of the maternity stores. The two salesgirls said that they both used it during their pregnancies and it worked great. Of course, it's also $30 a bottle, so I'm sure that's why they're trying to push it, but oh well, haha. I really like it so far, it smells great- very subtle and not overwhelming- and it feels really good too- makes my skin so soft! It says on the bottle to use it all over, "from above your boobs to below your bum" but at that price, I'm just using it on my belly!

Jergens Skin Firming lotion! It has collagen and elastin just like all of the other ones but i like the smell and consistency so much more. My friend swore by this lotion when she was pregnant with her first and walked away with no stretch marks. It's working for me so far and it's only $7 a bottle!

  • Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lotion (not the stretch mark one - the regular every day lotion).  I put it on my belly right after my shower and it works all day.  I haven't noticed that it stains my clothes, and while the scent is strong I don't find it unpleasant.  DH occasionally talks to my belly and tells the baby that they smell like chocolate!

  • Eh, nothing yet, as my belly isn't really doing anything that would make it itchy.

Also, stretch marks will or won't come no matter what you put on your skin.  Moisturizers/oils don't make a lick of difference but to reduce itching, according to everything I've ever read (eta I read one study in post-write googling that said that one active ingredient may help, but only with women who have had stretch marks from pregnancy before).  Otherwise it's genetics, how much weight you gain and how fast, how much baby(s) and fluid is in you.  Don't waste your money on expensive pregnancy lotion!

ETA: to up the downer content of my post, I was stretch mark free until 37+ weeks, and some people think they make it out free and get them during birth.  BUT, mine are more or less invisible now with no effort on my part to get rid of them.

Ditto this. My mom and grandma (mom's mom) didn't get stretch marks so I don't think it will be an issue for me. However, I do get very dry, itchy skin in the winter so when that comes around, I'll be reaching for my Aveeno Stress Relief lotion. I LOVE the smell of it!
