Swimming Lessons in HarCo?

And recommendations, preferably in the Aberdeen-to-Bel Air area?

Re: Swimming Lessons in HarCo?

  • Have you looked in Kids First Swim in Bel Air? They have a new location or maybe that's a location for just signing up. I know they have a Fallston location.

Does the Y do swimming lessons?

  • I keep hearing about Kids First Swim School, and there is a new location in the Festival. I have also heard about Aquaculture in Forest Hill. You could also try the Arena Club or Bel Air Athletic Club, and I am not sure if any of the Y locations have pools.

  • Thanks ladies!

Sadly the Y doesn't have a pool yet.  They're still raising funds to build it, which I hope happens soon!

  • A girl I work with at the restaurant also lifeguards at a pool in Aberdeen and was just talking about swim lessons there with another server who has kids. I know it was $70 I can't remember how many sessions though.

I am taking Collin to Kids First and that was $90 for 6 sessions.

  • Aquaculture in Forest Hill! By far the best. I went to Kids First Swim in Forest Hill and was NOT impressed. Dirty facility, teachers weren't great. Aquacultures has a great rep!

Don't waste your $$ or time. Try Aquaculture, everyone in my mom's group goes there and I've been to the facility - nice and clean!

  • We've been to a birthday party at Kids First in Forest Hill and the chlorine was so overpowering that our cheeks were red and eyes hurt for a while after we left. I get that they have to use a lot of it because of all the germs or whatever, but wow. I wouldn't go back there for swim lessons.

That being said, there is a new Kids First at the Festival - where Bombay used to be, beside Shoprite. I would consider going there because its new and although I don't know about the chlorine smell, I imagine that its a lot cleaner than the Forest Hill one.

I've also heard good things about AquaCulture.

  • They do private lessons at the Bulle Rock pool...not sure if they would be open to non-residents but it's worth a shot to call and ask.  They have some sessions this summer of group lessons outside too.
