Pacifier suggestions

I think that I've become the pacifier.  LO will not take a paci and wants to comfort nurse often.  Any suggestions as to how I can get her to take a pacifier?

We've tried several kinds, without success.

Thanks!

Re: Pacifier suggestions

  • Does she eject it when she really gets sucking? Sometimes it's the shape of the nipple, and sometimes it's that they need to learn that type of suck. If it seems like she's ejecting it or spitting it out, she's probably learning how to hold it in there. I know it's frustrating, but sometimes you'll have to put it in there a million times or put your finger on it to keep from popping out. I had to go through 7 different kinds before I found one that S liked. I think her favorite now is a Playtex silicone ortho style.

  • My DS only took the Nuk pacifier.  We tried the Playtex too (no others).

Of course he's almost 2 and TOO attached to it.  So I say use it wisely and break the habit before age 1.  (Though it IS a good thing and reduces the risk of SIDS).

  • Margaux likes the Playtex silicone ortho ones.  We've gotten her down to bedtime only.  Your baby is still really young, though, right?  She might be building up your milk supply?

When we've taken Margaux to the hospital for heart checks and tests when she was younger, they'd give her those green hospital ones, and she was fine with those as well.  I think they sell them now?

  • DD liked the Born Free pacis when she would use one.  I think Peppernut means the soothie pacis, but I can't think of the manufacter's name, but there the pacis in the wubanubs if that helps.  What about fingers/thumbs?  That's DD's first choice!
  • We used one with Sarah until she was 4 months old, then we weaned her from it. Our learning is not to use one with baby #2, as we want to avoid weaning from the paci. Our situation is different as I never breastfed. I don't remember the brand we used, she was not picky with the paci.
