Babies: 9 - 12 Months

how much bm and solids for 11-month old

i know it completely varies from baby to baby...but i exclusively pump because my daughter gets more from the bottle and likes it better...so i need to know the number of ounces i need per day for her.  i know it obviously depends on how many solids she is also getting - which i can increase or decrease - but since her nutrition should come primarily from her bm right now, i want to know the number of ounces of bm per day that a baby should have.  my flow seems to be slowing down so i'd like to increase the solids she's having just to save even an ounce or two here and there...but i just want to make sure she is getting the amount of bm she should be getting for her age.  everything i read is about giving them what they want and seeing if they're satisfied, etc., but since i'm actually measuring the amount and have limited quantities, i want to know the amount "required" for an 11 month old.  sorry if this is confusing, i'm just a little frustrated that i don't know how much she should be getting.  also could you guys include the number of ounces of solids in your responses?  thank you so much!!

  • I worked with a nutritionist to see what my DS should be eating and drinking since my pedi gives me a hard time about his weight.  I EP also (though I'm starting to mix with with a little goat or WCM).  She said he should be offer three 8oz bottles/day, three meals and 2-3 snacks.  She also did a calorie breakdown for us, but that would probably be more relevant to my own son's weight.

  • thanks for your reply, it's helpful especially because you ep.  my daughter is a week and a half from 11 months, and she was 21 or 22 lbs at her 9 month appt.  i guess i just stress a bit about it because she has such a big appetite and i don't know whether to give her more milk or solids.  i want to give her the amount of milk she needs but obviously i don't have an unlimited supply!  and if i increase the solids, does that mean she's getting too many solids over bm...if i brought her down to 20 oz a day of milk, which i would love to do because i can definitely pump that amount, she would probably have to have an increase in solids, and i know that's not supposed to outweigh the bm....i'm not trying to overanalyze it, but it sure sounds like i am i guess!

  • Not that there's anything scientific with this... we take our daughter to a babysitter who has been watching kids for over 20 years, so I take a lot advice from her. Whenever she has noticed that our daughter is getting hungrier, we up her solids, not her BM. She usually has 4 bottles (about 6 oz)  per day around 10,1,4 and bedtime. And her meals are at 9, 12, and 630 with some yogurt, applesauce, or puffs thrown in for snacks.

    I think you're fine!

  • DD gets 4-5 oz bottles at daycare. I'm sending 2 bottles to daycare now, and she nurses 3x at home and 1-2x during the night.

For solids she's just eating regular food, so I have no idea the amount. This morning for breakfast she had 1/2 an english muffin and 4 grapes. Last night for dinner she ate 1/2 tuna melt sandwich and 2-3 tbsp mixed veggies. She eats 3 meals and 1-2 snacks.
