Yesterday, the nurse midwife came to my house for my weekly 17P injection*. She asked about when the baby balls up one side (which she was currently doing). The one side of uterus gets hard from the baby pushing out and it's painful, but not awful or anything.
The midwife said that this is a contraction. I was a little flabbergasted. I've been having painful (and non-painful) contractions since 18 weeks and this was 100% not in my counting.
Is she right? Or crazy?
*The midwife isn't from my practice. She is from this mandatory program from my insurance. They are requiring this service to come out once a week to administer the shot and perform a mini physical to prevent preterm labor.
Re: Stupid ? about contractions
With my first pregnancy, I was feeling stuff like that and just assumed it was the baby pushing out. When I went on the monitor (for something else), I saw that they were actually contractions! If your belly gets hard, it is a contraction.
That doesnt mean it is something to worry about necessarily. I had them starting at 14w with my second pregnancy and didnt deliver until after 40w.
But now that you know, you can keep an eye on it.
