We are going to a party for the fourth where the main dish will be a lobster...everyone brings sides to go with it..this is a picnic-y type of party...any ideas of some fun sides that would work well?
Really fattening mashed potatoes? I have no idea, but you have now made it so that if I don't have lobster at some point today, I may die. My husband thanks you!

Corn salad:
Steam (or grill) corn. Cut it off the cob. Add chopped red onions, avocado, hearts of palm, or any other chopped veggies. Drizzle with vegetable oil and red wine vinegar.
Other ideas: grilled or baked asparagus with garlic, potato salad, tomato with feta salad...

You've gotten great ideas!! Love the corn salad idea! Corn and potatoes always go with lobster in my head.
The only thing I would add, and it depends on how casual this really is, but you could bring fixings to make lobster rolls (rolls, a dressing to put on the lobster), so if people wanted to eat it that way...
I made this orzo and chicken salad last week and I'm making it again tonight. You could skip the chicken to make it more of a side dish. I am also going to add halved grape tomatoes tonight.

I was going to recommend a corn salad too. I always put halved grape tomatoes, chopped cilantro, red onions and avocado in mine. I dress with equal parts olive oil and red wine vinegar. This is my go-to summer salad.
I made this salad (sans green pepper) for a bbq this weekend and it was yum! Greek Tomato Salad
You could also make a broccoli slaw...just put a bunch of broccoli stems & carrots in food processor and make a dressing out of a little bit of mayo, apple cider vinegar, and lemon juice - plus salt & pepper. (Cal loves this!)

Living in Maine, I have been to my fair share of lobster bakes (you're all so jealous, I know!).
It's usually stuff you can eat with your hands - corn on the cob, rolls/biscuits, and blueberry cake for dessert!
Yummy!

I am from Nova Scotia and I lived on lobster during lobster season growing up! We sometimes dipped our lobster in melted garlic butter. Yum!
Ditto the potato salad, corn, rolls, coleslaw, some kind of light dessert (strawberry shortcake?).
If it is a casual backyard thing, you could also have someone bring a veggie tray to nibble on while you hang out?
