Re: Anyone NOT do WCM at a year?

  • We did cows milk at a year, but I do know people who have done that toddler formula for a little bit- I think it's just gets expensive to do that- I don't see any nutritional value in the toddler formula.

Rice milk I have no experience with, but every doctor I know, including my dad, my sister, and brother in law said to stay away from anything soy.

I have a friend who went to almond milk instead - but I'm honestly not sure if it was an allergy, sensitivity or taste issue. I'm sure your pedi would have ideas if you didn't want to do WCM!
  • We won't be doing WCM at a year, but I plan to keep breastfeeding as long as possible, and possibly do rice milk or almond milk instead. She loves her yogurt and gets some cheese and egg yolk, so i am not worried about her not having it.

  • We had breastmilk left beyond a year.. so we introduced it slowly.

This time I have quite a stash, so it will be a long while before she gets cows milk.

  • If you google, there's information on the fat content of other milks (almond, coconut, etc.).  I think most of them don't have enough fat for brain building (that's why you do WCM until 2).  If you can get enough full-fat yogurt into them, it's not an issue, but it's easier for most kids to drink it.  BM is obviously fine, toddler formula is a rip-off.
