Success after IF

i'm scared. what's happening to me?

Something weird (and scary, and incredibly disgusting) just happened.

I've had some nasal congestion and runny nose while sick, although that had been improving over the last couple of days. A few minutes ago I decided to blow my nose, since I felt a tiny bit congested. After I blew it once, it was like I'd turned on a faucet and yellow fluid started pouring out of my nose. It wasn't like usual snot, it was much more of a liquid, and was dripping all over my shirt and the floor. It kept coming and coming, I filled probably about thirty Kleenexes before it slowed down. I sent a message to my doctor to ask what the fvck just happened.

I'm scared. This is all so weird. What's happening to my body? (I can't do the crying face on my Mac, but I would if I could.)

  • Total non-medical professional here, but could it be a sinus infection and that is like a pus-drainage? I know gross, but that sounds awful. I feel so badly for you. When do you hear about test results?

we have a couple back so far--RSV was negative, and my red blood cell count is low (but the doctor didn't leave any comment on why it was low, so i've sent him a message asking what that means). chest x-ray was clear, but you can have pneumonia with a clear chest x-ray. pertussis, which is the one i'm nervously waiting for, was supposed to take "a few days"--who knows what that means!

i'm trying to reassure myself that when it comes to half a cup or so of mysterious yellow liquid, better out than in! :P

  • honestly that sounds like a sinus infection to me.  Its so gross and while I haven't had that same experience I have some nasty stuff come from sinus infections.  Just keep calling the dr until they either see you or tell you what the heck is up!  GL sweetie

  • Sinus infection, maybe with some sort of cyst? Perhaps it ruptured so you got all the drainage?

I know DH has a mucus producing cyst, which he's been told is more of an annoyance than anything to be concerned about.

Yeah, it sounds like a sinus infection to me also. Your sinuses are big cavities and can hold a lot of gross fluid. It's definitely possible that by blowing your nose you dislodged a thicker bit of mucus that was holding thinner fluid in your sinuses and so they emptied out. Sinus issues would also make you cough a ton because of PND, etc. The first time I realized I had sinus issues, I thought I had pertussis because my cough was out of control!!

Do you have a sinus rinse? Made by NeilMed - you can buy it at most pharmacies (though it's usually tough to find/on the bottom shelf - so ask the pharmacist if you don't see it) for around $5. I think cleaning your sinuses out is a good idea. The more you can get that stuff out, the quicker you will heal! (After 2 sinus surgeries and multiple other sinus issues, I am a professional messed-up-sinus-ite at this point!)

Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!!

  • First thing that came to my mind was spinal fluid (I saw something similar on mystery diagnosis once...lol). That doesn't sound like a sinus infection like I've had before. Especially if it was dripping all over like you stated. Call your doctor, speak to a nurse right away vs. sending an electronic message. (if that's what you did)

Also, if you need to see a great ENT, I have one! It may be a wait to see him, but worth it if this issue persists!
  • You have a FB message!

thanks! sounds like what i have except they say that it should be clear, and this was bright yellow--which is reassuring, makes me think sinuses!

  • I was going to say sinus infection too. Maybe you ruptured an absess or something? DS had a horrible cough that sounded like pertussis to me (thanks to WebMD) but it ended up being a sinus infection.

  • I don't have any insight, but did want to chime in and say that I hope this all clears up soon, and I'm so sorry you're dealing with it!

  • If its mostly clear (as in not clumpy), I'd urge you to have it tested for cerebral fluid. It shouldn't be dripping like that.

    HUGS FRIEND!
  • Sinus infection.  I've had the same thing happen to me before.  I literally could blow and blow and blow and nasty green snot kept coming out.  Lovely, right?!?  Getting some antibiotics will knock it out in no time.  Feel better soon!

  • Cerebral/spinal fluid... if you put a drop of it on a paper towel, it should have a ring around it.  No ring, not it.  Plus it's colorless.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

but if coupled with existing infection, not necessarily the way it could present. If on it's own, totally agree but perry has been supeer I'll and likely dealing wi multiple symptoms and issues presenting at once.

Ditto this. It could be a different color combined with sinus drainage, but should always have the ring around it.
