hi hi hi
i'm finally having some time to bump. i started work a week ago and then before that we were with the ILs on a lil vacay for a late my late bday celebration/introduce d to the other side of the fam. we had to celebrate my bday late 'cause we spent my bday in the hospital 'cause of d's surgery.
we did the long drive and d did really well. it was right before mem day weekend, so there was a bit of traffic and we had to stop to feed. a normally 5-6 hour trip took about 9 hours! but the traffic was a factor too.
the trip was great. we got to see our friends and fam. it was the most that we took d out in public. we usually didn't take him anywhere except church or a fam party.
so it was an adjustment learning how he/we would do in public. i learned i can't feed him a bottle. he refuses to take a bottle from me. so if we're in a restaurant, MH has to feed him the bottle. we also have to have dinner early if we're eating out. so we have to be home by around 7:30/8:00 so that we can start our bedtime routine.
re the "my son" thing. MIL insisted on calling d that and MH kept correcting her. she wasn't listening. things got a little tense between the 2 of them because it wasn't only that, she wasn't listening to MH or i when we were telling her what d likes and what not. so she didn't want to swaddle him, she wanted to play in the MOTN even though we don't engage him during that time, when d got bored and wanted to play then she wanted to put him to sleep. and we were giving her all these tips because whenever d would cry, she would freak out. so we were trying to tellher what works so that he would calm down. so the "my son" thing just pushed MH over the edge. MH also asked that they fix their house up, meaning install working smoke detectors in the bedroom where we would be staying and to fix the window which is inoperable and doesn't open. i'm not sure how that convo went, but i gather it wasn't as positive either 'cause MH was so frustrated. i told him to give it time. it's not like we're asking for a complete overhaul of the house. working smoke detectors and windows that open are a safety feature IMO.
i pretty much told him for the sake of d, he needs to talk to MIL so that they are all on the same page. MIL loves d so much and we're lucky to have her in our lives. i think they just have to have a meeting of the minds and just a definition of roles. hahaha
anyway, i just wanted to give an update! i was going to add this on the weekly check-in, but it's fairly long. hahaha
Re: hellooooo!!!
Welcome back! Sounds like you had a nice visit and it seems that things with the MIL is improving...slowly.
