Would you call or wait?

Hi ladies! I have had very severe swelling in my feet and ankles over the past 3 days but I just passed it off as being related to being on my feet at work until just a few minutes ago when I checked my weight. I have gained 11 lbs since my appointment last wednesday. I did have some problems with my blood pressure about a month ago, but it has been fine since. I have an appointment with my OB tomorrow at 9 am, so my question is, would you all go ahead and call the doctor on call tonight, or just wait until the appointment in the morning. I know these can be signs of pre-e, I just don't want to over think it when I will be seeing my doctor in the morning. TIA I really appreciate all of you!

Eeeks!!!  I would say that is some significant swelling!  What time in the morning?  I would call if you are having chest pain, difficulty breathing, pain in your lower legs, or headaches.  If you called tonight they would probably have you go to OB and get checked out.  Is there somewhere you can go to get your BP taken like Wal-greens?

  • My appt. is at 9 in the morning, so that is why I was considering waiting. I can go to walmart and check my bp on their machine, I'm glad you said that, because I didn't even think of it. I get off work at 11 so I guess I am headed to walmart after that!

Maybe you should just go ahead and call your doctor because that is a lot of swelling.  My doctor was worried when I gained 3 pounds in one week, which I contribute to being on my feet all day and wicked hot temps.

pre-e is no joke...and I am sure you know that. Do you have swelling elsewhere: hands, face? Any abdominal pain? Spots in your vision? If so- call immediately!

I would definitely recommend checking your BP, but just keep in mind that those machines aren't always calibrated frequently, and may not give you the most accurate reading. If you get a gut feeling that something jus isn't right, don't hesitate to call your doc!

  • I would call the on call doctor.  That is some major swelling.

  • Call.   They will have you go to L&D for bloodwork, urinalysis, and bp and fetal monitoring.   THis is no joke.   I'd much rather you be seen and it be nothing than not be seen and progress to pre-E.  Please call.
  • Call now.  That is far from normal.

  • I'd call, it sounds like Preeclapsia
  • Definitely check your BP and probably call even if it's normal, because the machines can be off. Don't stress yourself out, though. I gained 7 lbs. in 2 weeks and my ankles and wrists have been swelling too, but my BP was fine at my appointment today and it's just that time in the pregnancy and the summer to start to puff up.

11 pounds is a lot, but if you weighed yourself on different scales, that can make a difference too. Definitely get checked out, but don't stress yourself too much, it MIGHT still be normal ;).
