PIP your small nursery/room of multiples

We are moving into a new house and the kids will have their own rooms...well, DS will have his own and the girls will share. I am just trying to figure out how to arrange them to get the most of our room since it's not huge. Any pics would be fantastic!! I really would love to get inspired; I was going to do an L shape, but not sure yet!

Thanks :)

Re: PIP your small nursery/room of multiples

  • My boys' room is pretty small.  These are the only pictures I have at work, they are from when I was pregnant so a lot has changed in the room (some different wall hangings, more stuff in the room etc.) but they give you an idea of the layout.

This is the view when you walk into the room:

So, one crib is on the wall on the left when you walk in and one crib is on the back wall.  On the wall to the right is where we have their dresser which now has a changing pad on it and so we also use it as the changing table.  Here is a picture of that side:

    Hope that helps some. :)

Edited because I am dumb and put the same picture twice. :)

  • Sorry I don't have a PIP (b/c we are STILL waiting on our cribs that I ordered in April) but our nursery is a 10x10 square which we will be placing 1 crib and rocker/ottoman on wall to the left, a toy chest (great to have to store diapers/wipes IMO) w/ a seat on top under the window (far wall), and a dresser that we doubled as a changer and another crib on the right rall. (The other wall is the closet and door).  HTH!

I also recently had my nursery featured here.

They did a Q&A type thing and there are a lot more pictures.

  • we have a tiny room (i think its like 7x10).

  • Somewhereincali - I love the loveseat/ottoman! Also, lucky with the storage wall. The map is nice - we're thinking of getting a giant print from IKEA to go up in the nursery - trees or something.

Original poster - we don't have our nursery done yet, because we're remodeling our house and currently have no walls or floor in places (or ceiling, depending on which floor you're on) (I wish I was kidding). The room that is going to be the nursery is small, about 9x10. The door into the room is on one of the longer walls, and the windows (double, double hung windows - they go to just about knee height to above the head - nice and big!) are on the opposite wall. The closet is on the furthest short wall, and it's kind of like a walk-in, except it's tucked under an eave, so the ceiling slopes down in there (I think it'll make a nice reading nook someday!). I haven't gotten everything planned out yet, but my dad is building the cribs - I plan on starting out with just one (or if he finishes both in time, great), and we will also have a Pottery Barn rocker in there with ottoman, we have an old chest of drawers that was my husband's when he was small to refinish that we'll use, and we just got an Expedit from IKEA to go on its side under the windows. We'll need to figure out a changing station (I think my dad again - he built my sister's and it's beautiful, and is now a great bookcase/storage unit). I also just got a soft-sided toy box from Amazon Mom (to keep my prime membership, honestly) that will go in there somewhere (probably the closet). I love checking out Ohdeedoh.com for inspiration! Good luck!

Thanks! We had it already so we decided just to use that instead of purchasing a glider.  It takes up a fair bit of space in the room but I figure they won't be playing in there much really.

The IKEA print is great, I'm really nervous about having something heavy hanging over the crib, and this is pretty lightweight (and no glass), plus since its so huge you can stick it below the cribs, so it cant really fall into them.

IVF w/ ICSI #2 - fraternal twins born December 2010 at 36 weeks.
  • i still don't have any good pics of the nursery - i have been so lazy about taking them ...

    but some pieces of advice:

-don't have anything within reach of the cribs- b/c they will be pulling up in no time and reaching for anything they can - and even if they can't quite reach it- the fact that they are trying = dangerous b/c they will then be trying to climb out.... less temptation = less chance they will try to climb out... and less things they WILL grab and put into the crib.  This means anything hanging on the wall, curtains, changing table (someone's pic on here has one very close to cribs- i'd move that)...

if you don't have to - do not put the cribs touching in any way... b/c when they are older- they will fight, hit, throw things at each other, etc.... mine are across the room from each other and I'm VERY glad it's that way.... sometimes, though, space doesn't allow - i feel for those moms :)

ikea cribs are great for small spaces - we have 2 Leksvik cribs - they are standard size, but take up less room than many other cribs b/c there is no ornate woodwork, etc.  We LOVE ours.... and they turn into toddler beds, which is nice in tight spaces... i want to keep them out of twin beds as long as possible- so we have more room in there as long as possible.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • These pics are from before our nursery was complete.  Of course my MIL got us some of the biggest cribs out there but I love them so we made it work.
