February 2011 Moms

a couple random questions

1.  For those of you with lil swimmers, what do you have them swim in, the smallest "swim diapers" say for 16 lbs and my little guy is not quite there yet

2.  Eye goop, I think DS has a cold, he had a little cough last week and a runny nose, but not he has thick yellow eye goop- is this just part of his cold or what.  Is it possible for babies to have outdoor allergies already?

3.  Bedtime- we have been putting DS to bed around 9 for quite some time now and he'll usually sleep until 5-6 am, how many of you have a 7-8 bedtime and how do you make that work with all his feedings- I typically feed a 6-8 oz bottle at around 6 am, 10 am, 2pm (rice cereal with bottle), 6 pm and 9 pm

Re: a couple random questions

  • The little swimmers would still prob fit smaller than 16lbs as long as your LO isn't that much smaller. Maybe try putting him to bed shortly after the six p.m. bottle??

Hmmm....DS is 17 lbs, so we had no problem with the first size.  Does Pampers make something comparable, perhaps in a smaller size?  If he's close to 16 lbs, I would just throw it on him- it's not like he's going to be swimming all day long, ya know?

    2.  Eye goop, I think DS has a cold, he had a little cough last week and a runny nose, but not he has thick yellow eye goop- is this just part of his cold or what.  Is it possible for babies to have outdoor allergies already?

I think environmental allergies can certainly show this early, but I don't think they test until one year....not a clue for sure though.  Could he have a clogged tear duct?  DS had two (one in both eye) and they just cleared up- it used to ooze tears and eye crusties (vom).  When in doubt, contact your pedi!

Well, I guess you would just stagger it to LOs needs.  I'm not sure what you're asking.

  • 3. I put him down between 8-9 and wakes up between 5-6. He gets a 4 oz bottle at 6 and then 4 more 4 oz bottles with gma and then a bottle when we get home from work. We are going to start cereal after his last bottle.

We have a washable swim diaper. Forgot where I got it, but it's for 16-24lbs and even though she's only almost 15lbs, it still fits her fine. We just avoid picking her up by her armpits.

    2.  Eye goop, I think DS has a cold, he had a little cough last week and a runny nose, but not he has thick yellow eye goop- is this just part of his cold or what.  Is it possible for babies to have outdoor allergies already?

Sounds like an eye cold to me. They best thing you can do for it whether it's an eye cold, allergies or a blocked tear duct is put breastmilk in the corner of the eye and massaging for a minute (if you have breastmilk to give) and getting a washcloth damp with warm-hot water and placing on the eye for a minute. Your LO will NOT be happy, but it really is very good for the eye.

She gets cranky for bed between 7:30 and 8pm. Even if it hasn't been a full 3hours, she still knows she needs to have a bottle before her bedtime so she'll goe from happy to instantly cranky, and that's our cue to change her diaper, dress her for bed, give her a bottle and put her down. ALWAYS works. She does still wake around 2-3am, but I count my lucky stars that it isn't 11-12pm anymore!

We use a cloth swim diaper.  The min weight says 15 lbs, but my ladybugs skinny legs fit fine.

    2.  Eye goop, I think DS has a cold, he had a little cough last week and a runny nose, but not he has thick yellow eye goop- is this just part of his cold or what.  Is it possible for babies to have outdoor allergies already?

This is probaby part of the cold.  I would keep an eye on it and if it gets worse, tell the Dr.

LO has a bed time of 9pm, so no help here.

  • DD fit in the smallest size lil swimmers Huggies diapers even at 12 lbs.  Just a little big but no big deal.

  • My LO is 14lbs, and the little swimmers work well for her...so I'd say just give it a try!

No help on eye goop...hope that goes away for you!

My LO is asleep by 7PM. We do 6oz bottles around 6A, 930A, 1230P, 430P and 645P. I just cluster a little bit towards the end of the night. You could drop a bottle and do 4 bottles of the full 8oz. If you did, I'd do 6, 10, 2, 6 and then start a new bedtime routine and lay him down by 7 or so. You may be surprised how well he does. I was surprised when we moved up the bedtime that it really didn't make her wake earlier or need any bottle adjustments. The only reason we cluster feed at night is she likes to have a bottle to relax right before bed...otherwise I'd move to 4 bottles, too. I may in the future.

Edit: We also feed oatmeal for breakfast, and are on to a veggie for lunch. Small portions, but are starting solids.
