What to do with stew meat, besides stew?

It's just too hot for stew, but I'm trying to use up everything in my fridge/freezer/pantry and I apparently intended to make stew awhile back but never got around to it.

So yeah, suggestions for a pound of stew meat that works when it's a million degrees outside? Bonus if it goes in the crockpot!

My mom used to always make something like this and it was always yummy.  I bet you could cook it in the crock pot and it would be really tender and moist.

*I had the wrong recipe at first,  and she used red wine, not white.

And she didn't use sour cream, just cream of mushroom soup.  But I bet either would be yummy.  Mmmm, I wonder if DH would like this....

Sorry, I just read over the instructions and it sounds a lot more complicated than I think it needs to be.  I bet you could just dump it all in the crock pot and call it a day.  :)

  • We make a Nicaraguan version of salpicon. You first brown the stew meat. Then pulse it in the food processor with an onion and a red pepper until it's a texture you like (I do it in batches). Serve with rice and lime juice.

LOL, I do that all. the. time. with crockpot meals. Brown the meat then just dump it all in.

  • You could use stew meat in this recipe. Its one of DH's favorites:

  • Make Carne Guisada... we use this seasoning mix and it's really easy. Though the preference is to use a roast and cut it yourself for more tender meat. Just cook low and slow until meat is very tender... yum!

This.  Except instead of using seasoning mix, I just use salt and pepper, maybe a little garlic powder and some chopped onions.  Then after the meat is cooked, I add flour and a little water to make a yummy gravy.  I serve it with tortillas and steamed veggies.

  • What about a chili? My chili's always involve random peppers, beans, and veg that I have lying around. Then I add chili powder, garlic, and cumin. It's more of a cold weather food, though.
  • I specifically buy stew meat and make kabobs with it. Add tomatoes, red onion, bell pepper, and whatever else you like and grill them. So good!!!

This would have been my suggestions, too. Beef kabobs are so yummy! You can also add some pineapple to the bell pepper, onion, mushromms, whatever you put on it, it makes everything juicier!
