It's just too hot for stew, but I'm trying to use up everything in my fridge/freezer/pantry and I apparently intended to make stew awhile back but never got around to it.
So yeah, suggestions for a pound of stew meat that works when it's a million degrees outside? Bonus if it goes in the crockpot!
Re: What to do with stew meat, besides stew?
My mom used to always make something like this and it was always yummy. I bet you could cook it in the crock pot and it would be really tender and moist.
*I had the wrong recipe at first, and she used red wine, not white.
And she didn't use sour cream, just cream of mushroom soup. But I bet either would be yummy. Mmmm, I wonder if DH would like this....
Sorry, I just read over the instructions and it sounds a lot more complicated than I think it needs to be. I bet you could just dump it all in the crock pot and call it a day.
LOL, I do that all. the. time. with crockpot meals. Brown the meat then just dump it all in.
You could use stew meat in this recipe. Its one of DH's favorites:

Make Carne Guisada... we use this seasoning mix and it's really easy. Though the preference is to use a roast and cut it yourself for more tender meat. Just cook low and slow until meat is very tender... yum!

My little ballerina - thanks Life in Motion Photography!
coat meat in flour and salt and pepper.
place in crock pot with beef broth, red wine, onion and cook until tender.
remove meat and make a gravy with the juices.
Serve over egg noodles - YUM!!!
This. Except instead of using seasoning mix, I just use salt and pepper, maybe a little garlic powder and some chopped onions. Then after the meat is cooked, I add flour and a little water to make a yummy gravy. I serve it with tortillas and steamed veggies.
:-)
This would have been my suggestions, too. Beef kabobs are so yummy! You can also add some pineapple to the bell pepper, onion, mushromms, whatever you put on it, it makes everything juicier!
