Yes, of course. What if you and your husband have to go to separate appointments wih the kids? or one of is staying home with one child and the other one is out?
You can always go out with just one child in a double and just put bags on the side or something. But that would always leave one child, somewhere without a stroller to go for a walk or run a quick errand...
I had 2 single strollers, an umbrella and a travel system one. I gave the travel system one away and kept the umbrella. Never regretted it:) I use my double for everything!

Our single is big and heavy, so I never took it out anyway-- we just used it around the neighborhood. I always just put them in the shopping cart.
I guess I'm just worried a year from now when DD is walking a lot and we go to the museum, I'll wish I had it! But then we still have the umbrella...
I use my single occasionally, but that's because I had a more compact full sized single stroller (graco metrolite) and I still wear #2 quite a bit. With your kids ages, I can't see a situation you'd absolutely need a full sized single stroller.
I never used my big single but used my light weight umbrella stroller while wearing the baby a TON.
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
Yes, we use our singleton if we take the girls in one and DS in the single. I like the idea that I can still use it if I need to or if DH takes DS somewhere. It's handy. I have our umbrella in storage currently, but I wish I had that one instead of his full sized one (that goes with the carseat). It's just a lot more compact. I also have a doulbe (for when my girls are bigger and DS won't go in the stroller) and a triple, so I am set for anything, lol
We currently have in our possession 5 strollers...a snap and go that is borrowed and needs to be returned, a single BOB jogger, a single lightweight stroller (bumbleride flyer), a double maclaren (just purchased from craigslist), and a double bumbleride indie twin. We are tempted to sell either the flyer or the BOB, but keep coming up with reasons to keep them. I have used the flyer a few times in the past month, so we would sell the BOB - but DH keeps thinking he will take one kid out for a run. So we kept them all.
I sold mine. I have a single umbrella, and plan to keep it, but I have had exactly TWO trips out with just 1 LO, so it didn't make sense to keep it. My DH is deployed right now, so the likelihood of me needing a single in the coming 6 months is very very (very very) slim.
Yes, my single is the Peg Perego Skate. It does have a jumper seat, but I rarely use it (maybe when DD2 is a little older). Anyway, when I go to the mall, I put DD1 in the single and DD2 in the Ergo. There's no way the double is fitting in gymboree.

This is what we do when we have just one kid at a time. I let my sister use my single stroller.
If I go with both kids, there's a basket underneath the stroller for stuff I'm buying. If the basket isn't big enough, then I'd usually put off that errand until when DH could watch one or both of the kids.
I sold my single BOB Revolution but kept my single Maclaren umbrella.
I have two doubles (BOB Duallie and Baby Jogger City Select) and one single (Maclaren Triumph).

I kept mine, but I only have one. If you have an umbrella you'll be fine. I use my single if I wear #2 or take just one kid somewhere. I like to have options.
I have the city select that I can use as a single or a double, and the Joovy Kooper - the CS stays in my car, the Kooper in my husband's. We'll always have a stroller in a pinch.
We plan to keep ours (it's a Graco Quattro Tour) as I'm sure there will still be times when we'll use it. The kids won't be together 100% of the time and as DD1 gets older, I'm sure she'll prefer to walk more than ride.

Good luck deciding!

I kept my favorite one and sold the rest.
