What does your 2-yr-old like?

L's b-day is coming up and I don't know what to ask the grandparents for.  We are leaning towards a sandbox, but I'm still torn.  What types of things does (did) your 2-year-old like to do?

(We are waiting to ask for a balance bike--M&R you sold me on it--until Christmas.)

  • We have a ton of toys so we asked for swimming lessons.

  • Do you already have a Learning Tower? My parents got that for DD for her birthday.

We got her this Spring Horse and she loves it!
  • I say go for a sand box or water table.  We got Griff a sandbox for his 2nd birthday and he LOVES it.  He could play in it for hours if we let him!

    :-)

  • Thanks ladies.  Keep the ideas coming.

We do have a water table--I've just been lazy to fill it up.  We also have a learning tower and he uses it everyday.

The swimming lessons seem good, but grandparents like to actually be able to get it--they would rather not give us the money to get them.  They won't even order stuff on-line so if we go with the sandbox I want, I will have to send it to the walmart store near them to pick it up.

  • My mom is renewing our membership to the Children's Museum and my dad is getting us these sandpaper letters from Etsy.

She's probably a little young for them, but she has already memorized her letters and *really* wants to do school.  (We pick Abby up from preschool sometimes and she desperately wants to go.)

I'm currently trying to convince DH that we should get Kate a kitchen, but he's not feeling it.  Since he has no ideas of his own, I imagine I'll win this round.  :)

We are also making her a montessori-ish cabinet out of some repurposed furniture.  It's going to have doors that we've spray painted with magnet paint and chalk board paint.  I'm making some activities to rotate through based on some blogs that I follow.

Do you have links? I'd love to see them!  We're trying to incorporate more Montessori stuff at home too :-)

HSartteach - hehe on the balance bike :-)  Some of Megan's favorites at 2 were the easel, wooden trains, this rocket.  Both Megan and Ryan love their sandbox! Other things doll & stroller, aquadoodle, wooden unit blocks (we have the M&D ones), play kitchen and the play fod (especially the M&D cookies and cutting food).
