i feel kind of silly about asking this since this was done in 2008 and I havent wondered about it until now..
when we were TTC#1, we did ivf and they did ICSI. i know what ICSI does, but not why they do it..it was never explained to me as far as i can remember..
so what is the reason behind it? mh went to SA and from what i remember everything was normal. i also remember doing a cervical mucus test and they didnt find any moving sperm in the sample. everything from that time is such a blur, i cant remember what that means.
we are ttc#2 on our own for the time being w/ just charting, because for the first time in my life i am having close to normal cycles (36-39 days instead of 90something days lol) and i just was wondering if PCOS wasnt our only issue, and that maybe mh had an issue as well.
thoughts? thanks!
Re: ICSI question
We did ICSI because we had really bad MFI -- lowish count, but really bad motility and absolutely terrible morph., which my RE believes effects the ability of sperm to fetilize eggs.
It can also be done just to improve some outcomes and fertilize more eggs, because they hand-select the best sperm.

We also did ICSI for MFI issues. My husband's SA numbers were great for everything except morphology (<2) and ICSI helps with that since it aids fertilization and low morph can result in low fert. As a result of ICSI (we did it with all 4 of our IVF cycles), we had very high fertilization rates (low 90%s every cycle) which was helpful since I also had a lower egg quantity from all my cycles so it helped us maximize our chances of getting an embryo.
Personally, I think it's worth it to get another SA again if you don't have luck TTC#2 after a few cycles b/c it can change over time and you would want to know if this is part of your Dx now (although I hope not).
thanks for the info guys! if we arent successful on our own w/ just charting by the fall we will be going back for FET, we are lucky that we have 17 more frozen.
