PCOS Ladies...

I have pcos and when getting pregnant i would form really large cysts on my ovaries...I am not seeing my specialist anymore..havent since 12 weeks preg. but i have not had AF yet since delivering, and i have been having pains like i used to get, but i am not on BCP yet bc dr wants me to wait to get period...i guess my question is what is all the other pcos ladies doing with birth  control...and when did u start?

Re: PCOS Ladies...

  • My doctor said the same thing, not to go back on BCP until I started my period. I was worried that I wouldn't start, but I ended getting my first post-partum period at exactly 8 weeks pp. I had stopped bleeding at exactly 4 weeks. So, I started BCP when I started my period.

I stopped bleeding btn 3 & 5 weeks, I can't actually remember.  But since yesterday I've been spotting a bit, so I'm guessing I might be getting a period.  My dr prescribed progesterone pills for me to take as birth control (I haven't taken them..bad me).  I go back for my annual appt in August & we will discuss birth control options then.

  • I got my first PP period at 10 weeks. We aren't doing anything for BCP. With DH MFI and all the trouble we had to begin with, we figured what's the point!

  • I haven't had a PP period yet, but between breastfeeding and the fact my cycles were between 50 and 100+ days previously, I'm not expecting one yet. I'm honestly not doing anything for BC or my PCOS. We use condoms and my only real PCOS symptom is crazy-long cycles, so I'm not too concerned. I'll go back to Metformin eventually when we start thinking of kid #2

  • We're just going to use condoms for now. I'm BFing so I'm not expecting a cycle. If I don't have one 2-3 months after I stop breast feeding I may need to take something just to have a bleed. I'd really like to see what my body does on its own. I'd also like to see if I can control it with diet and exercise. I'm not over weight, but I still think that I could eat better. I'm thinking a low GI diet may control the symptoms. If not, I'll consider going back on the pill.

  • I stopped PP bleeding at week 5,  had an AF at week 6, and another AF at week 9.  My body is freaking out!  Every single PCOS symptom (except the non-existent AFs) is back in full force and possibly worse than pre-baby!

I started on the mini pill at week 6 (my midwife said that I could start it before a period came if case a period took forever) but I don't think it is doing anything at all.  Even though I take it at the exact same time every day, I don't trust it for BC at all.  I will start back on my normal BC pill next month.  I also started metformin at week 6 to help with the symptoms...

You have to dtd to need BC :) so I'm not super concerned about getting pregnant.

  • The Nuva ring supressed my cysts but it's not compatible with BF, so I'm not doing any BC until I'm done with nursing.  A lot of them went away during pregnancy and haven't come back yet, but if I start having pain again I'll see my doc and see if she can recommend anything else.
