Vent: Grandmas driving me crazy!!!!

I am usually just a lurker but I had to vent to someone and decided that maybe some of you ladies could relate to how I am feeling! My LO is a month old and my husband and I are adjusting well and so in love with our little girl Smile

My vent is about BOTH of the grandmas, I have a great relationship with my mom and MIL but they are driving me crazy, constantly stopping in and making an obnoxious fuss over LO..........I know she is cute, but the over the top baby talk, trying to make her smile, and wanting to know every single detail about what she has done since the last time they have seen her.......(well she eats, sleeps, poops, repeat....and since you were just here 24 hrs ago nothing has changed!!! Confused They are grating on my nerves!!!! I am not one to make a HUGE fuss over babies so I guess I just don't get it Confused I am blaming most of my feelings on hormones....and I guess I am feeling a little bit invisible espescially with my MIL, she was never one to call me or just stop in to say say "hi" and now she is my new BFF.......suddenly I am worthy because I have provided her with a grandchild (first and only grandchild)

Ok..........vent over thanks for listening!

I can relate for sure.  My own mother lives all the way across the country, so it's not her, just MIL.  MIL lives out in the country about 45 mins away from the city we live in and she comes to town once a week (usually Wednesday) to run errands and grocery shop.  That would be fine and all if she stopped in once a week, but she wants to come in at 630am and have coffee with me and DH before he goes to work, then spend time with DD and me, but that is when DD usually goes back down to sleep until about 9:00 and for me that is prime time for me to get a sh*t ton of things done around the house.

She also wants to go to all of DD's well baby check ups, and THAT drives me more crazy than anything.  I feel like I can't ask the questions I want because she is always talking, and I also feel like she judges me.  Plus she is constantly comparing DD to my husbands brother when he was a baby (I am not a huge fan of his brother!).

Anyway, I totally get it that everyone is excited about the baby, but give a new mom a break!!!

Are they just dropping by?  Or letting you know beforehand?  If they're just dropping by, I wouldn't answer the door.  If they're calling, I'd say, "Sorry, it's not a good day for a visit."  I think you'll have to be honest with both of them and say that daily visits are too much, and that they'll have to cut their visits to once a week (or whatever you're comfortable with).  You're the mom, and you being stressed is not good for the baby, who should be your primary concern.

  • ughh my mil's baby talk is vomworthy. so is her jabs towards me as she talks to the baby.  soooo glad they are on vacation this week! my own mother just seems intent on keeping my child awake too long when she is around here so taht she gets over tired.. funnnnnnnnnn.. though when they come to visit i just usually walk out of the room and let them have their fun and do whatever i want. or go clean my house.. even though they both offer to come over and clean but then somehow come and just hold the baby!
