At our 4 month appointment the pedi said we can start with cereal and if he likes it start introducing other baby foods. I know other foods won't be for a while, but I would like to make my own and don't know the first thing about it, so I want to get reading - any suggestions??
Re: Books or sites for making baby food?
The website www.wholesomebabyfood.com has great ideas and recipes.
I used the Super Baby food and website (https://www.superbabyfood.com/) and found it pretty easy to follow (and do). I actually didn't give her any jarred/processed foods until she began finger foods.
in addition to the above, this book was my baby food bible: https://www.amazon.com/Super-Baby-Food-Ruth-Yaron/dp/0965260313/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1308666746&sr=1-1
Honestly pureed meat just grossed me out so much that I waited until she could chew/gnaw on meat and was older...
haha, I was thinking the same thing
- good to know I'm not alone. Thanks for all the info everyone!
sprout would only eat pureed meat if it was in something smooth...like sweet potatoes or carrots. I'd cook the meat (usually pulling off however I made it for us: poached, roasted, whatever) & then blend.
Dark leafy greens also have iron, FWIW. And, frozen things like peas & green beans pureed a lot better if you boiled them first (so, not just defrosting & then puree).
I highly recommend making big batches, putting in ice cube trays, freezing & then placing in labelled bags (we had veggie, meat, starch & fruit bags).
