Just a little while ago, I went to the bathroom to #2, and I noticed it kinda hurt a tiny bit when I tried to push (sorry for the graphic details). And then I wiped after I urinated, and there was blood on there. Not a lot of blood, but it was definitely there. I am a total wreck right now. I can't stop crying. I don't know what to think. I'm so terrified. I called my doctor, and I explained the situation to the receptionist, and she said someone would call me back. What the hell! Why would you call me back? Can't you just tell me to come in now!
I'm also really scared because I had been craving tuna fish my entire pregnancy and last night I finally gave in. It was Bumble Bee tuna. I'm so scared that the tuna had something to do with this. I will feel so absolutely terrible if that is the case. OMG I am so miserable right now.
Has anyone had a situation where they bled during their 2nd trimester, or absolute end of the their first trimester and then everything turned out to be okay??
Re: so scared, so confused, in tears
First of all, the tuna had nothing to do with this. If there is something wrong, there is a 99.9% chance that nothing you did had anything to do with it.
Second, spotting can happen for all kinds of reasons during pregnancy and it does not necessarily mean anything is wrong. If it isn't accompanied by cramping, that's a good sign. While bleeding can be a signal of a problem, there are many women who had bleeding in early pregnancy and went on to have perfectly healthy babies. Also, did you by any chance have sex last night? If so, this could be the cause of the bleeding.
Try to stay calm and positive and wait for your OB office to get back to you. Chances are everything will be fine. Don't panic until you have a reason to. Sending T&P your way...
I have a feeling it's a hemmroid. I know of other women, even later in their pgs, that had bleeding after #2 and it was a popped/broken blood vessel. I can only imagine it being scary seeing blood but try to stay calm and by no means was this related to eating tuna!!
Hope your doc calls you back with some ressurance, but I really think it's hemmroids!
Hang in there!
First, tuna is ok during pregnancy. Limit to 6oz a week is fine. And chances are, you probably had low mercury tuna anyway from a can. Seriously, fish during pregnancy is good for you and as long as you watch the mercury, you're good. And even if you did overdo it, it would have nothing to do with bowel issues. Please forgive yourself and indulge in a tunafish sandwich now and again. Seriously, google it, and you can read for yourself that your tuna sandwiches are AOK.
If you had trouble pooping, you were just a bit constipated. That can irritate and cause a teeny bit of bleeding. Honestly, that's all. Constipation is a very common pregnancy symptom (I struggle with it too!). Just try to keep drinking lots of water to stay hydrated. If you just see a few spots of blood when wiping that is a lot different than bleeding out your arse!
Take some deep breaths, and I bet your Dr will tell you all is ok. They may be over cautious, and that's cool, and check you out, but I would put money on this being nothing at all.
DMoney will be a kickass big sister
Thank you so much for responding. I definitely don't have any cramping. That's why when I saw blood, I was sooooo shocked. Because I know my sister in law had a miscarriage and she told me that she woke up that morning and felt period-like cramps. I feel absolutely no cramps.
I didn't have sex last night either. Thank you again for your comforting words. I truly hope that nothing is wrong with my baby.It would be so devastating if there were something wrong. I'm trying to stay strong and be patient as I wait for the call back.
The tuna had nothing to do with this.
Everytime I have had to call my doctors office, someone has always had to call me back.... except for the last time, since it was clear that I was in labor.
I am sure the blood is just from #2 and nothing else... try to relax.

Yes, I did have a hemmroid. I have had it for a few week actually. I don't know if that's it though. It's hard to know where the blood is coming from, you know? This is all just so nerve wrecking! I just want to hear from my doctor that everything is perfectly fine. I've been praying like crazy.
tuna? NO...hemorrhoid? yes
1. I know you're freaking out, but try and think logically here - do you really think eating some tuna caused your bum to bleed? I can tell you 100% that it did not. Don't worry. My doc said that it was safe to eat one can of tuna per week during pregnancy. I don't eat that much because I don't feel comfortable doing so, but I've had tuna 3 times in the last 16 weeks. Your baby will be fine.
2. You probably have a hemmie or an anal fissure. They both are common during pregnancy due to either constipation or the weight of the baby, or both. They are the lovely pregnancy gift that just keep on giving, long after your baby is born. Sucks, and definitely scary to see a bit of blood, but you need to calm down and stop your crying. My advice would be to have your family doctor check it out and start treating the issue before labour so you don't end up with baboon butt after pushing your baby out.
ETA: When you have a hemmie, the blood can look like it's coming from your vag when you wipe...but it's likely really coming from your bum.

I agree with this post. I have had quite a bit of blood after being backed up and straining to go (a few wipes worth, even a little in the toilet). For me its definitely hemmroids. If you can tell that the blood was coming from the back, I'd say its most likely that. However, I don't think there is anything too small to call your OB about.
You are allowed to eat tuna in moderate amounts during pregnancy. That is not related to the blood.
The blood may be from your backside and not even from the vagina. Or, it could be broken blood vessels in your cervix as a result of straining to go. I had a sensitive cervix and would spot after a bm, sex, internal exam, etc. Talk to your ob and maybe they will bring you in for an ultrasound for peace of mind.
I'm not sure where exactly the blood came from, if it was backside or vaginal. I wiped in both spots when this happened, and there was blood from both ends. I have definitely been constipated the past few weeks, and have had a little burning around my anus, so I am sure I have some hemrroids, or maybe anal fissures.
I haven't had any cramping at all, and no abdomen pain either. The bleeding just happened that one time early this morning. I have pee'd several times this morning after that, and urine is clear, no blood in the toilet bowl, and toilet paper has been clean. So, I guess that makes me feel a little better.
They still have not called me back from the doctor. I just want peace of mind, and make sure nothing is wrong with my baby.
All your thoughts and prayers would be very much appreciated.
So call them again. Or just drive up there. If waiting for them is stressing you the heck out, don't wait.
Besides the possibilities already mentioned here, it could also be placenta previa. This is nothing harmful to the baby- it's just the positioning of your placenta. Ask the doc to check when you talk to him/her, if you've already ruled out other possibilities.
GL..:o)
This - hemmorhoids suck, but unfortunately they are a common occurrence in pregnancy. Everything you described (pain during the pushing part) sounds like classic hemmie. Try to relax. Things only get weirder from here on in
This. Completely. Its not something that is widely talked about because...well...its TMI for most people, but it is very normal. I hope they call you back soon and you can get some reassurance.
They called back 30 minutes ago. Apparently when I called it went to some hospital operator and they had been trying to reach a doctor who was in surgery the whole time. That doctor isn't even my doctor. But all in all, it all got figured out and they called me back. I have an appointment at 1:30.
Hoping for good news....
Don't worry about the tuna for one. It's the only meat I can eat really since I have gallstones now and as long as you follow the 6oz. a week rule, you're fine... I've had tuna probably 7 times and baby is perfect.
As for the bleeding, a lot of times when you strain you can burst blood vessels not only in your intestines but in your cervix as well. Since it happened EXACTLY when you were straining, chances are high you just busted a vessel. Try to relax and just pay attention to if it gets any heavier. GL mama, hoping the best for you!
Got Swag?
Try to be calm. At 8 weeks had spotting and I woke up at 13 weeks to my white pajama pants SOAKED in blood and my baby is still fine. Regardless of the details of my situation, the point is that many times it doesn't mean the baby is in any danger.
I'm positive if you're not in any pain that you and baby are probably fine. Good luck and don't think the worst because the outcome rarely is.
It's not the tuna... and it's most likely not anything other than a hemroid. Speaking from experience, I had the same thing happen to me early on in this pregnancy. It's a bit scary to see the blood, but I also have had 2 m/c (not related). If you are not having any cramps or pain, it is most likely nothing to worry about.
Why would it be the tuna? Is tuna bad? other than the mercury level...
Try to stay calm
I know it's hard to do so when hearing that especially with how you're feeling right now. I think it could be a hemmroid too. I have also had that feeling when trying to go to the bathroom (TMI
) and it hurts but when done there is a little blood. It usually has to do with us not being able to go to the bathroom as well anymore cus our intestines are being pushed around. It also could be a anal fissure which is just like a cut but up inside where you can't fix it, so when you are constipated it irritates it and makes it bleed.
I hope your doc calls you soon and has good news to calm you down and assure you you and baby are ok
I want to thank everyone who responded to my post today, and offered me words of encouragement. I just got home from my doctor....everything is fine. We're not sure what the cause of it was. But the doctor said that if it was just that one time this morning, and I never had any pains or cramps then it's nothing to be concerned out. She did an ultrasound and the baby was kicking and turning around like a little athlete in there:) Heartbeat was good too. Thank God! I'm hoping i don't ever see blood like i did today....until i'm due in december in the hospital pushing a healthy baby out.
Again, thanks again everyone!!
Yes, it was definitely scary....but it looks like everything is and will continue to be fine. Best of luck in your pregnancy!
Thank you so much for sharing. Yes it is definitely hard to stress when you see blood. I am glad everything was fine for you and your baby!
