Pregnant after IF

When do you leave the RE?

When you get pregnant after IF, at what point do you leave the RE and continue on with a regular OBGYN?

My RE's office told me they'd phone me at 1pm yesterday with my beta results. They never called. I should have expected it since their 'service' or whatever you want to call it is absolutely terrible.

I can't wait to be pregnant enough to get a doctor that isn't a robot!

So I guess I'm still waiting on my beta today.

Re: When do you leave the RE?

  • That is unacceptable that they didn't call you with your Beta! I would be furious. But to answer your question-I was "released" after my 7 week U/S showed 2 normal sacs and heartbeats.

    Thank you!

I am completely pissed. I phoned them twice and left two messages and they still haven't called me back to at least tell me what the eff is going on!

I have my first u/s at 7 weeks, so hopefully I'll be free of their incompetence then.

  • I had 2 u/s with the RE before I was released - one at 6w6d and another at 8w6d. I went ahead and made my first OB appt as soon as the first u/s was ok and actually just had it at 9w3d.

  • I have an appt with for an u/s and a sit-down with my RE today. I'm hoping that  - if everything goes well today - this is when she'll release me to my OB because I've already made my OB appt for next Wed (hehe) when I'll be 9w4d.

I've had an u/s every week since beta #2 and it's been awesome for the most part because I've gotten to watch him/her grow from week to week! I might just go through u/s withdrawals when I can't get one every week...is there such a thing? Stick out tongue

It seems that every RE is a little different in this aspect, though. GL!

That's absolutely unacceptable.  I'm so sorry your RE's office doesn't have better service. I stayed with mine for 11 weeks but I loved my RE and was happy to stay as long as I could.  I know lots of ladies leave after the first u/s.

  • I stayed with my RE until 7 weeks - I had two u/s in that time - one at 5 to check placement, and one at 7 to see the heartbeat. My RE did offer one more ultrasound if I wanted it whenever I wanted it, since he often keeps patients until 10 weeks to ease their mind, and while I appreciated the offer, I was ready to move on! I'm sorry you've gone through so much with your RE's office! They sound terrible!

  • I had to have 2 normal u/s with them at 6 w and 8 w (last one was just yesterday) and then they released me to my ob. I have an appt with my ob next week at 9 1/2 weeks.

At the beginning (betas and stuff) they didnt tell me what would happen too far in advance - I think as a way of protecting their patients. They would always just tell me the next step - just one step at a time. :)

    Good luck!

  • I'm sorry your RE's office isn't better about their service.  I was d/c'd at 8 weeks after they were sure our bean was growing well and had a good hb.

  • Ugh, I'm sorry they are being a pain !

To answer your question, I was relaeased @ appx 7 weeks after my 2nd u/s that showed a hb.

  • My RE wanted to overlap appointments with my OB before discharging me.  So I saw my OB at 8 weeks and I was discharged from my RE at 10 weeks.

  • I stayed with my RE until 11 weeks. I could have been released at 8 weeks, but loved my RE and the staff, so I asked to stay as long as I could. Also, I got an u/s every week with my RE and knew that I wouldn't get another until 20 weeks with my OB, so that made me want to stay with my RE even more!

  • Im sorry you're having problems with your RE. My RE kept me until my 2nd u/s at 10 1/2 weeks.

  • I stayed with my RE through 3 betas and 4 ultrasounds, and was released after my 9w u/s.  Had my first OB visit at 10 1/2 weeks.

  • I was released from my RE at about 10 weeks. By that point I had several ultrasounds showing that the baby was growing appropriately and my bloodwork showed that my progesterone levels were okay.  I had low progesterone and was on supplements...not sure if everyone gets that monitored as closely as I did.

  • I was released at 8w1d but still say them 3 times between then and my first OB appointment at 10w because of some issues that came up. I'm shocked that your RE didn't call. My RE's office was always so on the ball and my OB's office is so not. It sucks.

  • okay...this may be a silly question, but why can't you (you in general, not OP) just leave the RE whenever you want to if you aren't happy with their service?  I love my RE, but I think that if I got KU and then really didn't want to go back, that nobody would be holding a gun to my head making me see the doctor.  Is it just for insurance reasons?  Maybe I'm jut anti wanting anyone to control me right now, but I would like to have the freedom to walk out the door when I wanted to....

I kind of sound like a meanie head, don't I?  I really don't mean to...I'll blame it on the baby.
