The discussion of cakes mentioned several people liking the elite icing. I can't stand the elite icing. White birthday cake is probably my favorite dessert but I won't eat it with elite icing. I want to conduct an extremely scientific poll about the topic. [Poll]

    I like how "light" tasting the elite is, but I prefer the buttercream overall.

    I hate elite frosting. It tastes like oil to me. If there is cake with elite icing, I scrape off all the icing and won't eat the part of the cake that touched the icing. Yeah, I think it's that gross.

    I absolutely love cake, specifically because I love sweet grocery store icing. It's one of my favorite foods (seriously). I get soooo disappointed when cake has elite icing! I don't even want the cake anymore.

    If elite icing is the default non-buttercream icing at HEB then I am ITA.  It is some nasty sh!t.

    I'm on this bandwagon - its delicious! I like how its fluffy and not so dense. However, I prefer buttercream from a "real" bakery over grocery store any day.

    Exactly! Elite is basically whipped sugar. Even the texture is wrong. Buttercream ... Well, the name says it all! Y-U-M!

    Now that I know what we're talking about, I'm an elite person.  Wink  Ever since I began making my own buttercream icing, I haven't been able to eat it.  I'll just hope I never find out the recipe for this kind and I'm good to go!

    Just FYI, "butter cream" frosting from the super market bakeries is almost always vegetable shortening, confectioner's sugar, and butter flavor. Smile   You're welcome.
