How did you block your banister?

Our living area is upstairs, and there is a banister overlooking the stairs down to the basement.  Caroline is very close to being able to open the baby gate between the living room and that banister...so I need to get on the ball about blocking it off.

The only two products I saw online had not-so-great reviews.  Any thoughts?

I'm thinking a piece of plexiglass ziptied to the banister railing...but if there is a better product on the market, I'm all for it...

Re: How did you block your banister?

  • My LO actually learned quickly how to walk on the little overhangs of steps outside the banister going up 5 steps. DH did just what you are talking about only we had to cut ours out in stairstep pattern so he could not grasp the rails. Plexiglass and zipties worked wonderfully and most did not even notice it

  • We used plastic cross hatch material like people usually use under a desk or porch. And yes we did zip tie it to the spindle.

  • Plexiglass and zip ties here!

They sell the same thing at One Step Ahead but it was much cheaper just to go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy the plexiglass.

  • we just ordered this from amazon and installed it. It looks so much better than our old superyard gate panels that we had tied to the banisters!
