Success after IF

when did you announce?

We were originally planning on keeping it a secret until the second trimester, but DH's grandma's 100th bday is the day before, so we thought we would tell his family then. BUT, Kaiser only does one prenatal appointment in the first trimester, and I used that up today. My next appointement will be at 13 weeks. Now I think we should wait...? Not sure DH could handle that =)

Re: when did you announce?

  • For both pregnancies we announced after my NT scan right around 12 weeks.

This.  We announced after our first ultrasound at 6w with our first pregnancy and then had to tell everyone a week later when we lost the baby.  I will never announce before 2nd tri ever again.

For pg #1, we didn't tell anyone until 2nd trimester (after 13 weeks).  For pg #2, we didn't tell until 18 weeks (I did an amnio with #2 due to our egg quality issues and wanted to wait until the results before telling people).

  • We told right away.

    1.  There were lots of people who knew we were cycling and were supporting us thru that process.  We couldn't see just not telling them that all their support had finally paid off as soon as we knew.  Plus - they knew the timing of things so they would have been asking point blank (My mom was here for transfer and bed rest).

    2.  I'd already had a loss (unmedicated pregnancy) and I knew full well that it was impossible for me to hide a loss.  No sense in waiting until the 2nd tri based on that thought process for us.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
